Binghamton Junior Senators
2016-17 Record: 45-1-1, 91 pts. (1st in Northeast Division)
2017 Playoffs: Won Northeast Division, lost in Silver Cup semi-finals to Granite City
Head Coach: Chris Laganiere
2017-18 Division: Northeast

Last season, the Binghamton Jr. Senators had one of the best seasons in NA3HL history, posting an incredible 45-1-1 record, cruising to the Northeast Division regular season and playoff titles. The Senators went onto the Silver Cup Semi-Finals, but fell to the Granite City Lumberjacks, who ultimately won the Silver Cup Championship.

The awards and accolades for the Junior Sens stacked up following the season. Forward Ryan Reifler was named the NA3HL Rookie of the Year for his 36 goal, 100 point season. The team also swept every Northeast Division award, which included the Forward and Most Valuable Player Conor Landrigan, the Defenseman of the Year Cole Skelly, the Goaltender of the Year Sal Lauretta and the Academic and Community Service Awards.

In addition, seven players make college commitments, which included six NCAA commitments.

After an extremely successful first year as Head Coach, Chris Laganiere wants the same success for the 2017-18 season.

“I’m hoping that we have the same success as last season. We’re going to be hard working and be a team nobody wants to play because of our work ethic.”

With his first season as head coach going better than expected, Laganiere reflects on what he learned last year.

“I didn’t know what to expect going into it. I learned that any night anyone can beat anyone,” said Laganiere. “As a coach I had to make sure that our guys are prepared every night, ready to battle and to not overlook any opponent. In junior hockey any given night anyone can win.”

While on-ice performance is important, Laganiere is very committed to getting his players to advance to the next level.

“First and foremost, you want to win but at this level you want kids to move on to the next level,” said Laganiere. “If 20 kids on my team move up, and we don’t win the championship, but they move up the next level, to me that’s a very successful season.”

Last year the Senators had success on the ice and in the community, too. The team volunteer in multiple schools in the area, special needs programs, and youth hockey programs.

“We try to get heavy into the community, it’s beneficial for everyone. The youth hockey players in the area look up to these guys and we hope one day those kids want to play for us.”
