White, Red teams finish unbeaten at NA3HL Top Prospects
Team Red beat Team Black 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday.
The NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament concluded on Tuesday, February 8th at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, PA.
Team White and Team Red both finished with 2-0 records at another successful NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament. The event saw scouts from the NHL, NCAA, and NAHL in attendance both days. All 29 NAHL head coaches were also in attendance.
White 7 vs. Blue 4 – Team White finished with a perfect 2-0 record at the NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament thanks to a 7-4 win over Blue on Tuesday. Landon Boothe (Bay State) had a hat-trick and Shota Kaneko (Mason City) and Ethan Chesney (Peoria) each had four assists apiece in the win. Team Blue led 3-2 after two periods with goals from Brett Reed (Granite City), Cade Wessman (Butte), and Nick Bradshaw (Butte), while Boothe and Abe Laggis (Oregon) had the goals for White. Team White then exploded for five goals in the 3rd period, which included two more from Boothe and others from Rex Staudacher (Mason City), Zach Vockler (Badlands), and Jason Tenezaca (Oregon). Gustav Ostman (Yellowstone) and the other Blue goal. Owen Carlson (Mason City) made 26 saves in the win, while Cooper Olson (Willmar) stopped 20 of 25 shots and Jake Turek (Gillette) stopped 14 of 16 shots in the loss.
Red 3 vs. Black 2 (OT) – The Red Team secured a 2-0 record at Top Prospects thanks to a 3-2 overtime win over Team Black. After a scoreless 1st period, the Red team scored first as Caden Butler (El Paso) scored his second goal of the event to make it 1-0. Black answered back later in the period as Nate Stone (Milwaukee) also scored his second goal of the Tournament to make it 1-1. Late in the 2nd period, the Red regained their one-goal lead as Anderson O’Connor (Louisiana) four the back of the net to make it 2-1. In the 3rd period, Team Black tied the contest at 2-2 as Blake Keller (Minnesota) scored. :47 seconds into the overtime, Michael Imala (TX Brahmas) was awarded a penalty shot and then converted to give his team the win in the final game of the event. Dolan Gilbert (TX Brahmas) stopped all 19 shots he saw in the win, and Camden Pendleton (El Paso) stopped 13 of 15 shots in the win as well. For Team Black, Anthony Adleman (Oregon) and Hunter Hein (TX RoadRunners) each made 14 saves in the loss.
