Ice Dogs rally to another win

Day 3 of the four-day NAHL Showcase Tournament wrapped up today at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minn., with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs overcoming a 0-3 deficit to defeat the Southern Minnesota Express, 4-3.  

Defenseman PJ Kavaya struck for two goals, including the game-winner, for Fairbanks.
 
"This was a great win for us," said Ice Dogs assistant coach Josh Hauge. "Our guys showed a lot of character coming from behind like that against a talented team like Southern Minnesota."  

After backstopping Fairbanks to a 3-2 shootout win over the U.S. Under-18 Team yesterday, goaltender Cody Reichard continued to impress against the Express with 36 saves.  

"Cody has been outstanding for us," said Hauge.  "He's made some big saves for us at key moments the last couple of days."  

Luke Salazar scored the game-winning goal and two assists as the Wichita Falls Wildcats doubled up the Alexandria Blizzard, 6-3.  Adam Cardwell and Ricky Brown each added a goal and an assist in the win, while netminder Kyle McMahon turned aside 29 shots.  

The Texas Tornado cruised to an 8-1 victory over the Bismarck Bobcats.  Ben Miller (game-winner) and Ryan Fuller each scored two goals and an assist in the win, with Sean Roadhouse adding a goal and three assists (he was also a plus-5).  Between the pipes, Tom Callaghan made 34 saves.  

Nine different players lit the lamp for the Springfield Jr. Blues as they blasted the Kenai River Brown Bears, 9-1.  Matt Globke notched a goal and three assists (he was also a plus-3), while Cory Patterson chipped in a goal and two helpers.  Between the pipes, Phil Cook made 14 saves.  

Max Mobley tallied two goals, including the game-winner, and an assist as the North Iowa Outlaws doubled up the Mahoning Valley Phantoms, 4-2.   Joe Harcharik and Brooks DeZellar scored the other North Iowa goals, while goaltender Robby Moss stopped 28 shots.  

The St. Louis Bandits edged out the Marquette Rangers, 3-2.  Bryan Ross netted the game-winning goal, and Grant Gorczyca registered two assists.  In goal, Cal Heeter turned aside 33 shots for the Bandits.  

Matt Hughes rang up the game-winner and two assists as the Traverse City North Stars upended the Alaska Avalanche, 7-1.  Harrison Niemann added two goals in the triumph, while netminder Miles Williams kicked out 13 shots.  

The Fargo-Moorhead Jets knocked off the Alpena IceDiggers, 6-4.  Jordy Trottier scored two goals, including the game-winner, and two assists, and David Bosner made 46 saves to pick up the win in net.  

Goaltender Michael Clemente stopped all 30 shots at the U.S. Under-18 Team blanked the Topeka RoadRunners, 3-0.  Robbie Czarik scored two goals, including the game-winner, for Team USA.  Ryan Hegarty scored the other USA marker.
