Madsen accepts coaching job at Niagara

July 23, 2009

The St. Louis Bandits have announced that assistant coach Tim Madsen has accepted an assistant coaching position at Niagara University (CHA).

“This is an exciting opportunity for Tim and we wish him nothing but the best,” said Bandits head coach Jeff Brown.  “He’s a gifted young coach and a great recruiter who has a bright career ahead of him.”

A 2008 graduate of Niagara, Madsen, who helped guide the Bandits to their third straight Robertson Cup championship this past season, played two and a half years for the Purple Eagles before an injury forced him to end his career during his junior season.

“I really enjoyed my time in St. Louis, a place where I’ve been treated so well,” said Madsen, from Elk River, Minn.  “Working with Jeff Brown, (assistant coach) Bobby Gassoff and (owner) Kelly Chase was a great learning experience for a young coach and I’m very thankful for the opportunity they gave me.

“I just want to thank the entire organization, from the ownership to the coaching staff to the front office staff for a very special season. Niagara is a place that I’m very passionate about and the chance to get into college hockey and coach at my alma mater is an opportunity that I’m very excited about."
