Capitals forward Kupaks makes NCAA commitment

July 23, 2014
Topeka Capitals and NA3HL forward forward Hardijis Kupaks, fresh off an outstanding first season with the Capitals, has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for the Aurora University Spartans.

Kupaks becomes the fourth Capitals to make college plans this offseason, following forwards Tommy Malkmus (Finlandia), and Connor Nicholas (St. Mary's), and goaltender Jude Hull (St. Olaf).

"Hardy was an offensive threat all season long for our hockey club," said Capitals head coach Anthony Bohn. "We are very happy for him and his family. We know he will be a successful college athlete and we wish him best of luck next season."

Kupaks played his first game with Topeka last October 12th, firing in two goals in a 7-1 victory against Dallas. By season's end, Kupaks would hold the franchise's single-season records for goals (33), assists (39, tied with Nick Rizzo), points (72), and game winning goals (five, tied with Yu Hikosaka).

Kupaks would add another five points (four goals, one assist) in the three-game South Division Playoff Championship against Sugar Land.

Kupaks also played on Team South at the 2014 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament in Troy, Michigan back in February.
