NA3HL announces Divisional Stars of the Week
The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Easton for the week ending September 7, 2014. The divisional stars of the week is an award given each week of the regular season to the top performing players in each of the four divisions of the NA3HL as nominated by their head coaches.
Central Division Star of the Week: Chance Homerin, forward, Peoria Mustangs
Veteran Peoria Mustangs forward Chance Homerin, 18, had a good weekend as the Mustangs opened up with a weekend home split with the Chicago Jr. Bulldogs. On Saturday, Homerin (6’0/180) factored in on both goals as he scored and had an assist in a 3-2 loss. On Sunday, the Pekin, IL native scored the game-tying shorthanded goal with just over five minutes remaining as the Mustangs beat the Bulldogs, 3-2 in a shootout. “Chance worked his tail off in both games and it paid off in a couple of big goals,” said Mustangs head coach Tyler Rennette. “At this time of year, you need your veteran players to be your best players and that’s exactly what Chance was for us this past weekend.”

East Division Star of the Week: Cody Black, forward, Pittsburgh Vengeance
After the first weekend of the year, Pittsburgh forward Cody Black, 20, leads the league in scoring as he helped the Vengeance take three of four points in their series on the road against the Southern Tier Xpress. On Friday night, Black (5’8/165) had a goal and two assists in a 5-4 overtime loss. On Saturday, the Wexford, PA native scored twice, including the game-winning goal in a 4-2 win. His five points is tops in the NA3HL after the first weekend. “Cody had a real strong weekend for us at both ends of the ice. He leads by example and is a tremendous role model for the younger players,” said Vengeance head coach Dave Dorsey.
