Rangers deal for IceDiggers' McCusker

February 1, 2010

Fans of the Marquette Rangers won’t have Alpena IceDiggers captain Jimmy McCusker to yell at any longer.

The 20-year-old forward from Novi, Mich., has been traded from the IceDiggers to the Rangers and will be in head coach Kenny Miller’s lineup this weekend.

“We’ve been working this one for awhile,” Miller said of the trade.

“Jimmy’s a team guy who’ll do really whatever we ask of him," Miller added. "He’s a player who’s been in this league for a long time, so he knows what’s expected of him. He’s got the ability to do all the things we need, from killing penalties to putting pressure on the opponent in their zone to putting the puck in the net.  He adds a dimension that really fits into our plan of success.”

Miller added that, since he and McCucker were also together during the coach’s time in Alpena, the transition to the Rangers should be quite easy.

“We know each other very well from before; he knows what I want and I know what he brings, so I’m confident he’ll jump right in and help us down the stretch,” said Miller.

In return for McCusker, the Rangers sent forward Danny Wood to Alpena.

This season, McCusker has played in 32 games and scored 19 points on six goals and 13 assists to go along with 55 penalty minutes.  During his tenure in Alpena, he has 118 points on 50 goals and 68 helpers.
