Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks defenseman Avery Huibregtse has committed to play NCAA hockey for Finlandia University.
The Cleveland Jr Lumberjacks, proud members of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Avery Huibregtse has committed to play NCAA hockey for Finlandia University. Finlandia is an NCAA Division III school and is a member of the NCHA Conference.
The native of Oostburg, Wisconsin, is playing his second season with Cleveland in the NA3HL.
Huibregtse (6’0/197) has been the defensive leader for the last two seasons. In the 2013-2014 season he recorded 2 goals and 28 assists. This season to date he has 6 goals and 21 assists. He has also been selected to play in the NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament February 23-24 in Ann Arbor, MI.
Head Coach Dane Litke had this to say regarding Avery’s choice of Finlandia.
"We are excited to have Avery join the Finlandia Lions. He is not only a good hockey player, but a good person and that is what we are looking for at Finlandia. He will be a nice addition to our team."
“As an organization we are extremely appreciative of Avery’s contributions for the past 2 seasons. He has been our defensive leader both years. When we first started recruiting Avery, Finlandia was a school he expressed interest in. He will be attending a University that is a good fit for him both educationally and athletically,” said Cleveland Head Coach Bob Jacobson. “Avery is an exceptional young man with outstanding character and work ethic. He is one of our captain’s this year and has been a very strong leader. Finlandia will be proud to have him as a student athlete.”
Prior to that, Huibregtse played high school hockey in Wisconsin for the Sheboygan Red Raiders.
