Under-17's fall in Four Nations final

November 11, 2007

Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.) scored a goal and Brandon Maxwell (Anchorage, Alaska) stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced in net, but Russia held on to win, 2-1, over the U.S. National Under-17 Team in the championship game of the 2007 Four Nations Tournament at Dmitrov Arena Sunday afternoon. Team USA finished the tournament with a 2-1-0 record.

Russia jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal from Dmitry Orlov at the 12:21 mark of the first period.

Maxwell stood tall between the pipes for Team USA just past the midway point of the second frame when he stoned the Russians on a penalty shot.

Team USA evened the score at one apiece with 3:13 left in the second stanza as Palmieri lit the lamp off an assist from Sam Calabrese (Park Ridge, Ill.).

Russia's Valuyskiy Semen tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal, on the power play, at the 6:57 mark of the final period.

Team USA finished with a 29-26 shot advantage in the game.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team returns to North American Hockey League competition next Friday (Nov. 16) and Saturday (Nov. 17) against St. Louis at the Summit Center. Both games are slated to start at 7:05 CT.
