Jets, Limburg blank Wolves on Wednesday, 2-0
January 27, 2016
Metro 2 @ West Michigan 0 - Metro Jets goaltender Kam Limburg picked up his NA3HL-best 19th win with a 2-0 shutout over the West Michigan Wolves Wednesday night at The Rink.
Limburg stopped all 24 shots fired his way, while Michael Tratar and Mathias Tellstrom each recorded a goal and an assist for the Jets. West Michigan goalie Maxwell Barr played well in the loss, making 39 saves.
“It's good to see our guys finish a game on the defensive side to ensure the win,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “We played decent in all three zones tonight and did a good keeping any breakdowns to the outside. Kam also made a couple key saves when we needed them, too.”
The last time the Jets played the Wolves, Metro took wins by 11-1 and 5-1 scores, both in Battle Creek two weeks ago.
“I'd say today, West Michigan played a much tighter overall game,” Limburg said. “That being said, we did a great job getting pucks deep into their zone and working it around down there. We got some big goals from ‘Trots’ and ‘Telly’ and were pretty clean in our defensive zone.”
Metro (29-3-2) remains in first place in the East Division, 18 points ahead of the second-place Toledo Cherokee.
The Jets stay on the road this weekend, heading to Jamestown, N.Y., to play two with the Southern Tier Xpress. Game times from the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena are 5 p.m. Saturday and then 1 p.m. Sunday.
“This weekend against Southern Tier will be a good test because we know they are going to bring their best against us,” said Limburg. “We'll just have to stick to our game plan and I know we'll be alright.” (story by Matt Mackinder)
