Skylands names Mitchell as associate coach

August 29, 2016
Skylands Ice World, in Stockholm, NJ, home to the Skylands Kings Youth and Junior Hockey, have announced, the appointment of Adam Mitchell to Associate Coach of the Junior Team, an active member of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) for the 2016-17 season.

Mitchell, born in Simi Valley, California, and raised primarily in The Washington D.C. Area, has an outstanding playing resume, spanning close to twenty years.  This will be Mitchell's first go as a junior coach and he is excited for the opportunity.

Mitchell's playing career began in Washington D.C. where he played Tier I for the Washington Little Capitals from Squirt through Bantam.  Mitchell was selected after he completed his Bantam division to play on the Washington Junior Capitals Team & the Washington Junior Nationals Team, then of the Metropolitan & Atlantic Junior Leagues, bypassing his midget division years.

Mitchell is a proud alumni of the North American Hockey League's (NAHL) Texas Tornado where he played in the season prior to their hiatus, 2009-10. There he accumulated 12 points as a regular in the line-up as a 17 year old.  He was also listed to the NHL's "players to watch" list. The following two seasons he was drafted to the USHL's Souix Falls and Des Moines, and tendered in the NAHL.

However, Mitchell chose to play two more junior years with the Bay State Breakers of the former EJHL racking up a point per game and committing to Rochester Institute of Technology to play Division I NCAA hockey.
Playing in 112 games for R. I. T., Mitchell accumulated 59 points in his four years, notching several game winning over time goals and graduated with bachelor of science degree in business.

In his sophomore year at R.I.T., Mitchell was invited to participate in the Washington Capitals (NHL) development camp.  Adam has for many years worked on the ice with the Capitals Alumni in teaching summer camps and clinics, instructing youth hockey, as well as for many other camps and clinics including, R.I.T., Pro Ambitions, Network Hockey, and many more.

Mitchell is also an athletic trainer for Parisi Speed School, located in Skylands Ice World, and will be instrumental in the junior players off ice development, and injury prevention.

“I am pleased and excited to announce Adam as our new Associate Coach for our Junior Kings.  Adam will be a great mentor and guide for the players as he brings a great deal of experience and excitement.” Said Skylands General Manager, Rita Mitchell.  “We are looking forward to a great team this season, and a great place for people to bring their families and enjoy a great hockey game!”
