Metal Jackets defeat Czechs in exhibition

November 12, 2010

The Motor City Metal Jackets downed the Czech Republic’s 18U National Team, 6-1, on Thursday night in an exhibition game at the Troy Sports Center in Troy, Mich.

Forward Billy Balent rang up a hat trick and an assist in the win, while goaltender Joey Ballmer made 34 saves. The Czech’s goal came with a two-man advantage.

“It was a great opportunity for our players to play in international competition against a very fast, very skilled opponent,” said Metal Jackets head coach David Cole. “It was also encouraging to see so many NHL and NCAA scouts in attendance.”

The Czech National Team will visit McMorran Arena on Saturday to play the Port Huron Fighting Falcons (7:11 p.m.) followed by a trip to Flint’s Perani Arena on Sunday to take on the Michigan Warriors (2 p.m.).

The Metal Jackets will face off against the Czechs again on Tuesday, Nov. 16 (7 p.m.) at the Kennedy Recreation Center in Trenton, Mich.

“The opportunity for NAHL teams to compete on the international level is positive for our players and our league,” Cole added.
