La Crosse defenseman De Schepper signs NAHL tender
March 20, 2018
The La Crosse Freeze of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that defenseman Toon De Schepper has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the New Jersey Titans of the NAHL’s East Division.
De Schepper, 19, is currently in his third season of playing junior hockey in the NA3HL for the Freeze organization. The 5’10/175 lbs. native of Nieuwenrode, Belgium, is having a career season as he recorded 34 points (7 goals, 27 assists) in 45 regular season games played in 2017-18.
In 100 career NA3HL games with the Freeze, De Schepper has recorded 43 points.
De Schepper is the first Freeze player and 10th NA3HL player this season who has signed an NAHL tender.
“Toon’s development this season from last year has been truly exceptional. He has worked extremely hard for this opportunity and we all are extremely excited for him to continue his development in the NAHL with the New Jersey Titans,” said Freeze head coach Jon Vaillancourt.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 5, 2018.
