Generals defenseman Hammel makes NCAA commitment

March 22, 2018
The Northeast Generals of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that defenseman Matt Hammel has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey to Salem State College.

Hammel, 19, just completed his first season of junior hockey. He spent time in the NA3HL and the NAHL for the Generals. The 6’1/190 lbs. native of Duxbury, Massachusetts, was the top blueliner for the NA3HL’s Generals this season, recording 41 points (3 goals, 38 assists) in 44 regular season games played.

He also played three games for the Generals NAHL team are various points throughout the 2017-18 season.

Prior to playing in the NA3HL for the Generals, Hammel spent two seasons playing at Cushing Academy. He is the first Generals player from the NA3HL team to make an NCAA commitment this season.

"Matt was great all year.  He came in, worked hard and was a great asset to the Generals organization.  For a defenseman he put up a ton of points and his +/- was great.  But off the ice he brought just as much if not more.  He did a great job and we are incredibly proud of him and wish Matt the best of luck next year at Salem," said Generals General Manager Bryan Erikson.
