NAHL graduates rack up Atlantic Hockey awards
A number of former NAHL players were recognized with 2010-11 Atlantic Hockey Association postseason awards, including Denny Urban, who was named the league's Best Defenseman, and Shane Madolora, who won the Regular-Season Goaltending Trophy.
Urban, a senior defenseman at Robert Morris University, played for the Mahoning Valley Phantoms during the 2005-06 season. He was also named First Team All-Conference.
Madolora, a sophomore at RIT, played for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and St. Louis Bandits from 2005-07. He was another First Team All-Conference selection.
Four former NAHL players were named to the All-Rookie Team: University of Connecticut forward Cole Schneider (Mahoning Valley Phantoms/Topeka RoadRunners, 2008-10); Niagara University forward Ryan Rashid (St. Louis, 2008-09); Air Force Academy defenseman Adam McKenzie (Wenatchee Wild, 2008-10); and Air Force goaltender Jason Torf (Motor City Metal Jackets, 2009-10)
Other former NAHL players recognized included Nathan Longpre, a senior forward at Robert Morris who was also named First Team All-Conference. He played for Mahoning Valley during the 2006-07 season.
Named Second Team All-Conference were NAHL graduates Jacques Lamoureux, a senior forward at Air Force and former Bismarck Bobcat (2003-06), and Mercyhurst College goaltender Ryan Zapolski, a former Phantom (2005-07).
Third Team All-Conference selections included Army senior forward Cody Omilusik, a former Bozeman Ice Dog and RoadRunner (2005-07), and Air Force junior defenseman Tim Kirby, who parolled the blue line for the NAHL's Southern Minnesota Express from 2006-08.
