'Pink' Bobcats raise money for ACS

January 16, 2008

What has evolved into one of the most anticipated contests of the hockey season in Bismarck, the “Tough Enough to Play in Pink” game raised $1,700 for the American Cancer Society Bismarck/Mandan Relay For Life this year.

Though the Bobcats lost the January 5 game in overtime to Alexandria, the outcome was still a win-win situation for all.

The fans saw a great game, the team got into the spirit of the event by helping auction off its pink jerseys following the final buzzer and the American Cancer Society received an enthusiastic boost for its 2008 Bismarck-Mandan Relay For Life, which began earlier in the day with a kickoff rally at the North Campus of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck.

Pam Cook, co-chair of the Bismarck-Mandan Relay For Life, says the $1,700 was the total the Relay received from the auction after deducting the cost of the special jerseys.

“Every year the event just becomes more and more fun,” said Cook. “Everyone gets into the spirit of the game and you leave the arena with a warm feeling that you were part of helping the Society find a cure for this terrible disease.”

Cook said that every dollar raised by the Bismarck-Mandan Relay For Life is used by the Society to continue its cancer research, its state and national legislative advocacy and its many educational and patient service programs.
