Jr. Blues prepare for home opening weekend

September 19, 2011

The weekend of September 23rd and 24th the St. Louis Jr. Blues begin their home schedule with a pair of games vs. the Granite City (MN) Lumberjacks. The home opening weekend is paying tribute to one of the greatest family’s in amateur hockey and showing support to area Emergency personnel.

On Friday, the Jr. Blues will be honoring the Jost family and retire the number 7 which was worn by some the Jost children and grandchildren throughout the years of the Jr. Blues rich history. Proceeds from the night will be donated to the Jim and Ginny Jost CBC Scholarship fund.

Saturday's festivities include the Jr. Blues teaming up with Responder Rescue (www.responderrescue.org) a non-profit organization founded to assist colleagues from area fire and police departments along with EMS workers who are coping with severe injuries, illnesses, along with other needs when all other resources have been exhausted.  Prior to the Jr. Blues/Lumberjacks gam, Policemen and Firemen from St. Louis City and St. Louis County will square off in a charity hockey game starting at 2:00 PM.  Proceeds from the event will be donated to Rescue Responder.

Jr. Blues General Manager Chris Flaugher had this to say about the home opening weekend, “When we started planning for the season, we wanted to start our home schedule off with a bang. The obvious way to go about this was to honor the family that is responsible for the Jr. Blues existence. The Jr. Blues and St. Louis hockey would not be where it is today if it wasn’t for the Mr. and Mrs. Jost. They have given so many St. Louis area players an opportunity to play hockey at a high level and by honoring them Friday night is just a small token of appreciation we can show them.”  About Saturday’s game, Flaugher said, “We were looking for another way to get our program involved in the St. Louis community and felt Responder Rescue was the way to go.  Some people don’t realize how much sacrifice Emergency Personnel put on the line 24/7 365 days a year. When a tragic incident occurs, the people that risk their lives for the public need all the help they can get.  The St. Louis Jr. Blues would like to extend thanks and show support.”

Catch all the action September 23, 7:45 pm and September 24th St. Louis City PD/FD vs. St. Louis County PD/FD 2pm followed by the Jr. Blues and Granite City tilt starting at 4pm at the Affton Ice Rink.
