Friday Finals: Wausau hands Rochester first loss of season

Wausau 4 @ Rochester 2 – Zach Dosan stopped 43 of 45 shots as the Wausau Cyclones handed the Rochester Grizzlies their first loss of the season, a 4-2 win in Rochester. Luke Anderson got the scoring started but it was back-to-back goals from Luke Nemeth and Adam Johnson. The lead would be short lived as Gage Vierzba scored just 31 seconds after Johnson put the Grizzlies ahead. Dylan Chapman netted his second of the season and it stood to be the games winner as Dominick Bourdon sealed the game with an empty net tally. Rochester’s Zach Wiese made 16 saves.

Alexandria 8 @ Minnesota 1 – Seven different Alexandria skaters found a way past the Minnesota netminder on Friday night, carrying their win streak to four straight and surpassing a .500 record. Ryan Hadland brought his point total to 16 in his two-goal, one assist effort to lead the scoresheet for Alexandria. Benjamin Tschida, Kaden Peterson, Matt Scribner, and Wyatt Johnson each tallied two assists for the Blizzard. The lone goal for Minnesota was scored 2:46 into the 2nd by Tye Kusilek, his 4th of the season. Christopher Brown stopped the other 34 shots to grasp the win and Payton West felt the pressure, averting 55 shots in the loss.

El Paso 3 @ Louisiana 7 – Thomas Mougin had a goal and three assists as the Louisiana Drillers defeated the El Paso Rhinos by a score of 7-3. Tyler Walker added two goals and an assist in the victory while Mark Kurliandchyk also potted a pair of goals. Mason Wilbur contributed a goal and an assist. Tyler Compton got himself on the scoresheet with a goal as well. Zachary Ware and Noah Easterson each grabbed a goal and a helper. Caden Butler also scored for El Paso in the loss. Evan Witchow stopped 33 of 36 shots while Camden Pendleton and Peyton Brendel teamed up to make 40 saves.

Bay State 3 @ Northeast 6 – Six different Generals found the back of the net as they doubled up the Bay State Bobcats 6-3. Nicholas Wracker and Eddie Mulligan each had a goal and an assist in this one. Owen McNamee, Viktor Solokhin, Sean Gorman and Nolan Murphy all visited the red light district in the win for the Generals. Will Morissette, Will Cormie and Damon Warren got on the board for the Bobcats. Mason Joseph grabbed the win in goal for Northeast while Ben Di Fiore was busy all night as he stopped 57 opportunities.

Peoria 4 @ Milwaukee 0 – Andrew Doran stopped all 27 shots fired in his direction was the Mustangs blanked Milwaukee 4-0. Connor Bruns had a goal and an assist in the win. Perry Lagatuz, Jaycob Bland and Thomas Kayner all found the back of the net for Peoria. Spencer Northway took the loss for the Power despite making 42 saves.

TX Brahmas 10 @ Mid Cities 0 – Aleksandr Gamzatov registered a hat trick and added an assist as the Brahmas took care of the Jr. Stars 10-0. Erik Vrkoc netted two goals and an assist while Michael Kramer also lit the lamp a couple times. Gion Coray had a goal and two assists while Luc Yorkison and Cameeron Colberg both got on the scoresheet as well. Dolan Gilbert needed just 15 saves to earn his second shutout of the year as the Brahmas stayed perfect on the season.

Atlanta 1 @ Oklahoma City 6 – Bobby Rabroker had three points to lead the Oklahoma City Ice Hawks over the Atlanta Capitals 6-1. Samuel Miller scored twice while Aaron Best had a goal and an assist for the Ice Hawks. Richard Indermill chipped in a goal and an assist and Avery Pittman scored for Oklahoma City. Landon Welch netted the lone goal for Atlanta. Nathan Hadley stopped 28 of 29 shots to improve his record to 3-4. Paul Jarvis took the loss in goal as he stopped 47 shots in a losing effort.

Mason City 7 @ New Ulm 3 – Jack Campion and Shota Kaneko both provided two goals to elevate the Mason City Toros past New Ulm 7-3. After both teams traded goals in the first half of the 2nd to keep the game within reach, Mason City’s Jack Campion and Ryan Kaspar scored 10 seconds apart late to carry the Toros into the 3rd up 5-2. Sota Isogai and Blake Polifka also had multi-point games for Mason City. Gus Cantwell scored twice for New Ulm and Bauer Barry buried his fifth of the year to keep the game in reach 10:57 into the 3rd. Ryan Knight and Carlson Owen both played between the pipes, as Knight stopped 20 shots to tally the win in net for Mason City. Zach Foster kept out 37 attempts in the loss.

Granite City 4 @ Willmar 3 – The Lumberjacks held on to take the 4-3 win in a nail-biter, fending off Willmar’s offensive rebirth in the latter half of the 3rd. After a scoreless 1st Caleb Roehrich breached the deadlock to put Willmar ahead 1-0, answered less than 30 seconds later by Karsten Senden for his first of the season. Granite City scored 3 more unanswered goals with two contributed by Nicholas Richert. Nolan Grier and Anthony Foster would go on to score for Willmar in the 3rd bringing the game within one, but the visitors were able to hold off the late surge to give Quentin Sigurdson the win in the blue paint. Will Pinney saved 31 of 35 shots taking the loss.

Butte 2 @ Badlands 4 – Maxim Currie was the star between the pipes for Badlands, keeping out 43 of 45 shots to carry the Sabres past the visitors. Zach Vockler, Derrick Brown, and Denim Young each provided two points as Badlands three-goal 2nd period was enough to outlast Butte. Nick Bradshaw and David Hanny were the sole goalscorers for Butte, scoring the first and last goal of the entire contest. Dale Pfannenstein took the loss, stopping 31 shots.

Yellowstone 2 @ Helena 8 - Yellowstone set the tone early in the 1st slate, finding the net 5 times in their 8 goal and 89 shot onslaught win with two goals thanks to Gavyn Galloway. Taber Gutschick assisted a teammate 3 times in the Bighorns’ victory. Nick Cofer, Andrew Deskin, Adam Harvey, and Liam Bland each recorded a goal and assist for the home squad. Yellowstone’s two goals came from Gabe Coppo and Keegan Ferguson, scoring his impressive 14th of the season. Both squads relied on both goaltenders, as Yellowstone’s Cole Easton ended up securing the loss, stopping 26 shots. Eric Buchholz had the win in hand heading to the bench in the split, stopping only 6 attempts from the Yellowstone Quake.

Oregon 4 @ St. Louis 3 (OT) - Sam VanderHoeven scored 1:23 into the extra period to secure a hat trick and inch Oregon past the Jr. Blues in Affton. Oregon and St. Louis traded three unanswered goals across the 60 minutes, VanderHoeven scoring twice for the Tradesmen in the first and offering a helper in the middle slate. St. Louis answered with three of their own, goals coming from Brayden Wilson, Gus Immken, and Michael Kennedy. Fred Roufs was credited with the win between the pipes stopping 30 shots and bringing the season series to 4-1 favoring the Tradesmen. Brendan Cobb stopped 41 shots for the Jr. Blues, dropping to 2-5 at home.

Gillette 5 @ Bozeman 3 - Tucker Lien’s score 17:03 into the 3rd proved to be the decider in Gillette’s come-from-behind victory against Bozeman. Carson Kuche scored twice for the Wild, with Lien and Tristan Baker also finding the point column twice in Gillette’s victory. Bozeman scored three consecutive (thanks to Liam Massie, Luke Busher, and Grayden Pond) to go ahead 3-2 in the contest, only holding the lead for only 37 seconds in the 3rd. Jack Orchard was credited with the win keeping out 22 shots and Collin Soderholm couldn’t hold on for the Icedogs, stopping an impressive 52 shots.

Sheridan 0 @ Great Falls 5 - Zac Hattan stopped all 19 shots coming from the Sheridan Hawks, capturing himself a shutout and a 5-0 rout for Great Falls. Jackson Henningsgard scored the decisive first goal 9:21 into the 1st for Great Falls, eventually dishing an assist as well. Silas Hughes and Henry Fusco also recorded two points in the victory.  Bo Buckley took the loss while saving 48 of the 53 attempted shots, the Hawks hoping to bounce back offensively Saturday night and end their two-game losing streak.
