Saturday Scores: Frontier Division highlighted by sweeps

Badlands goalie Maxim Currie stopped 76 on 80 shots in a two-game weekend sweep of Butte.

Yellowstone 2 @ Helena 16 – Tylor Greene and Eric Gibboney each recorded hat tricks in Helena’s dominant victory over Yellowstone, still yet to record a loss 15 games into the season. A total of fifteen skaters for Helena tallied at least a point, combining for an astounding 40 points. Eric Buccholz turned aside 29 to continue his perfect record in the blue paint. Brandon Kididis and Gabe Coppo each added power play goals for the visitors. Facing 114 shots, Jarret Perino and Luc Haggitt shared time in net for the Quake, fending off 98 saves. 

Butte 2 @ Badlands 6 – A thrilling back-and-forth 1st period ended with the Badlands Sabres up 4-2, eventually scoring two more insurance goals in the remaining 40 minutes to take the win at home.  Seth Stock scored and assisted twice for Badlands and Zach Vockler also had a score and an assist. Luke Schleusner and Caelin Chinery were the lone scores for Butte in what seemed like a tight contest early, but a strong 33 save performance from Maxim Currie was enough to secure the win for the Sabres. Caleb Cross did all he could between the pipes, making 38 stops. 

Gillette 9 @ Bozeman 4 – Declan Young shined on Saturday night in Gillete Wild’s commanding win in Bozeman, recording four goals and dishing two assists. The undefeated squad saw 13 skaters record points, notably Zack Slinger recording a pair of goals and Caleb Sanborn a goal and three assists. Jake Turek locked up the net for Gillette with 17 saves. Each Bozeman goal was scored by different skaters, Ian Bowman above all scoring early in the 2nd period and assisting on the three others. Liam Scott and Collin Soderholm split time for Bozeman in net, combining for 41 saves. 

Sheridan 4 @ Great Falls 9 – In a nine-goal outburst, Great Falls’ offense carried them past Sheridan to complete the series sweep at home. Jackson Henningsgard and Patrick Crooks each buried two past the netminder for the Americans and five other players added to their offensive charge. Sheridan’s reduced lineup scored in all three slates, with Taylor Frerichs depositing his first two of the season on a positive note. Zac Hattan cleaned up the remaining 37 shots against to secure the victory for Great Falls. Bo Buckley and Thomas Kuriscak combined for 39 saves in the loss, as the Hawks are looking to bounce back against the Badlands Sabres next weekend.

El Paso 7 @ Louisiana 5 – Matthew Gross registered a hat trick as the El Paso Rhinos defeated the Louisiana Drillers by a score of 7-5. Wesley Rees potted a pair of goals while Noah Easterson and Jaxon Penner also scored in the win. Zan Mojzer and Anderson O’Connor each tallied a pair of goals for the Drillers while Thomas Mougin had a goal and an assist. Peyton Brendel made 30 saves to earn the win while Brandon Keeney and Evan Wittchow combined for 40 stops for the Drillers.

Peoria 2 @ Milwaukee 3 (OT) – Max Erstad scored a highlight reel goal to lift the Milwaukee Power to a 3-2 victory over the Peoria Mustangs. Ben Cremers and Easton Nick lit the lamp for the Power. Ethan Chesney and Christopher Kondiles we’re the goal scorers for Peoria in the loss. Spencer Northway stopped 30 of 32 shots while Nahuel Veyan turned aside 40 of 43 opportunities.

TX Brahmas 10 @ Mid Cities 1 – Cameron Colberg and Aleksandr Gamzatov each had a goal and three assists as the Brahmas took care of the Jr. Stars 10-1. Michael Krameer and Erik Vrkoc each had two goals in the win while Joey CArollo and Jeremiah Snyder each tallied a goal and an assist. Troy Kirk and Luc Yorkison also scored for the Brahmas. Blake Lind contributed the lone goal for Mid Cities in the loss. Dolan Gilbert got the win in net for Texas as her made 15 saves. Quillon Bowman was dealt the loss despite making 59 stops.

Atlanta 2 @ Oklahoma City 10 – Avery Pittman and Robby Rabroker both had hat tricks and four points total as the Oklahoma City Ice Hawks knocked off the Atlanta Capitals 10-2. Noah Henslee had four points of his own with a goal and three assists. Samuel Miller and Jakob Holley had a goal and an assist while Richard Indermill also scored in the win for Oklahoma City. Caleb Crouch and Harrison Flaacke scored for Atlanta in the loss. Garrett Johnson made 10 saves to earn the win in between the pipes while Coleman Garnier and Paul Jarvis teamed up to make 55 stops.

Oregon 2 @ St. Louis 3 (SO) - Gus Immken had the game deciding goal in the shootout as the St. Louis Jr. Blues edged the Oregon Tradesmen 3-2. Tommy LaVigne and John Dapron scored in regulation for the Jr. Blues while Henry Slager and Sam VanderHoeven netted goals for Oregon. Espen Reager made 39 saves to pick up the win while Ian Hedican was given the loss despite making 31 saves.

Long Beach 5 @ Danbury 1 - Tyler Zembrzycki potted a pair of goals as the Long Beach Sharks beat the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks 5-1. Devin Carney, Hayden Doggett and Holden Wiltfong all found the back of the net for the Sharks. Seth Beagle scored the lone goal for Danbury in the loss. Greyson Skirpan grabbed the win in goal as her stopped 24 of 25 shots. Liam McGibbon made 35 saves for Danbury in the loss.

Wausau 2 @ Rochester 3 – 8:06 into the final slate, Jake Laurila scored his third goal of the season and the decisive one for Rochester in their bounce back win against Wausau. Adam Johnson found the back of the net twice for the Grizzlies 3:07 apart in the second and forward Justin Wright added three helpers. Wausau’s Wesley Coquet and CJ Zins each scored their first of the season to keep the game square through two periods. Both teams were awarded with strong performances in net as Rochester’s Zach Wiese stopped 34 shots and Zach Dosan saved 47 for the Cyclones. 

Mason City 6 @ New Ulm 2 – Outstanding four-point production from Jack Campion, Carter Newpower, and Sota Isogai helped power Mason City past New Ulm to complete the series sweep. Six other Toros skaters also found the scoresheet en route to a convincing 6-2 victory. Goals from Colby Nickel and Conner Souza remained the only two finding a way past Mason City’s netminder Owen Carlson, stopping the other 20 shots. Nolan Lacosse had a busy night taking the loss while keeping out 41 shots. 

Willmar 8 @ Minnesota 5 – The visitors controlled the tempo in the 1st period, scoring four consecutive goals with two thanks to Michael Sweetland. Willmar never lost their lead in the remaining 40, tallying eight goals in the process. Caleb Roehrich scored midway through the 2nd bringing the lead to 5 and capping off his fourth point of the night. Jordan Fjosne netted a pair for the WarHawks and Braden Fairbanks dished a pair. Offense came late in the second for Minnesota, Blake Keller and Jamison St. Clair each driving one home. A three-goal third period for the Loons with another from St. Clair wasn’t enough to even the slate. Will Kunka kept out 35 between the pipes and secured the win, Matthew Ryynanen took the loss with 41 saves. 

New Jersey 3 @ Norwich 1 – Goaltending proved to be the difference in New Jersey’s 3-1 over Norwich. Colin Freitas kept out an incredible 52 of 53 shots faced and received the first star of the game. New Jersey’s skaters put up a goal in each period as Roland Ponechal, Teito Ishigaki, and Noah Scherff each found the back of the net. Josh Manahan scored 18:59 into the middle slate for Norwich, scoring his first of the season and breaking Freitas’ shutout. Andrew made 23 saves for Norwich, as the Sea Captains are looking to snap their nine-game losing streak at home on Wednesday against Bay State.
