Friday Finals: Power get first win under new coach

Brett Reed had a six-point night as Granite City won their 18th straight game on Friday.

Oregon 2 @ Milwaukee 3 (SO): Garrett Wilderman, Mason Ausmus, and Michael Dalaly all found a way past the goaltender in the shootout to help Milwaukee edge past the Tradesmen 3-2 in nail-biting fashion, giving new Power head coach Kevin Marion his first win. Milwaukee opened the scoring in the 1st thanks to a goal by Max Erstad, scoring his 8th of the season. Oregon doubled up on goals early in the 2nd period, as Amir Velikhanov and Abe Laggis would score just 14 seconds apart. Mason Ausmus brought the game to overtime and an eventual shootout with a 3rd period goal for the visitors. Ian Hedican kept out 18 shots and stopped 2 shootout attempts to earn himself the victory. Spencer Northway also stopped 18 shots in regulation but was unable to stop enough in the shootout to earn the loss. 

Granite City 12 @ Minnesota 1: Nine different Granite City skaters found the back of the net in their dominant 12-1 over Minnesota. Brett Reed led the offensive charge for the Lumberjacks, potting a pair of goals and dishing out four assists. Tucker Skime and Brock Masseth also lit the lamp twice and provided an assist. Philippe Cebrian Boldyrev scored his first goal of the season to break up Xander Roberts’ shutout and get Minnesota on the board. Roberts stopped the rest to capture the 15 victory. Payton West put up a valiant effort between the pipes, facing 97 shot and stopping 85 of them. 

Danbury 9 @ Norwich 0: Nikita Kovalev and Nick Rogers each tickled the twine twice for Danbury in their convincing 9-0 win over Norwich. All of Norwich’s goals were contributed on even strength as Elijah Devereaux, Jacob Deitsch, Dylan Walker, Daniel Khatib, and Oleg Egerov would also pot a goal for the Jr. Hat Tricks. Brennan Churchill amassed 19 saves in the contest to earn the shutout victory between the pipes. Andrew Yocum was dealt the loss with 34 saves. 

Wausau 2 @ Willmar 7: An early offensive push in the 1st period for Willmar set the tone in their offensive showcase against Wausau, leading to a 7-2 victory. Willmar’s Teddy Kluesner, Jordan Fjosne, and Jeremiah Konkel each would strike before the halfway point in the 1st period, Kluesner scoring his first of the season. Collin Kerchoff and Kluesner both potted a goal in the middle period to extend the lead. Willmar’s 3rd period tallies were contributed by a second from Konkel and Michael Sweetland. Wausau’s offense came early in the 3rd and too late in the contest, Gage Vierzba and Dominick Bourdon each finding the back of the net before the halfway point in the period. For the netminders, Cooper Olson came out on top with a 38 save victory. Zach Dosan took the loss making 27 saves. 

Great Falls 1 @ Gillette 2 (OT): Tristan Baker scored 2:24 into the extra period, giving Gillette a well needed victory over Great Falls after dropping their previous 2 games against the Helena Bighorns last weekend. After a scoreless 1st period, Lucker Lien scored from Sky Skolig and Saizha Norwegian to give Gillette the first lead. Daniel Crutcher found the back of the net to tie the game, Aj Benit and Garrett Weisenburger dishing the assists. Both goaltenders had fantastic performances between the pipes, Jake Turek outlasting the opposition with 54 stops in the victory. Zac Hattan was dealt the overtime loss and made 49 saves. 

Yellowstone 2 @ Bozeman 5: Grayden Pond potted a pair of goals to help Bozeman move past the quake 5-2 and secure their 3rd straight victory. Bozeman remained on top 3-1 through two periods thanks to goals from Pond, Nick Smith, and Forrest Musselman. Pond found his second of the game 18 seconds into the final period and Cole Busher added an insurance goal for the Icedogs in their victory. Yellowstone’s pair of goals were scored by Brandon Kididis and Gustov Ostoman, however, Bozeman’s netminder Collin Soderholm stopped the rest to capture a 19 save victory. Edvin Falkenstrom took the loss in net, stopping 42 shots in the effort. 

Helena 8 @ Butte 4: A four goal 1st period set the tone offensively for Helena and eventually led them to an 8-4 victory over the Cobras. Liam Bland lit the lamp twice and assisted once for the Bighorns. Erik Gibboney scored a goal and dished a pair of an assist, while Tylor Greene and Adam Harvey also found the points sheet three times. For the Cobras, Nick Bradshaw had a stellar offensive performance, recording a hat trick and one assist. Luke Schleusner contributed the other goal. Dylan Romanow sealed the victory in net with 35 saves. Braylon Rogers took the loss for Butte, making 25 saves on 32 shots. Nikolai Wallery came in assistance and stopped 28 shots to give the Cobras a fighting chance. 

Badlands 5 @ Sheridan 2: The Badlands Sabres snapped a three-game losing skid in their Friday night 5-2 victory over Sheridan. Seth Stock and Derrick Brown each scored in the opening period for Badlands, dishing out assists for each other on the respective goals. Two more goals came late in the 2nd period for the Sabres, thanks to Keagon Holloway and Zach Vochler’s tallies 59 seconds apart. Brown would add his second of the night in the 3rd to provide the 5th and final goal past Patric Loeffler. Sheridan’s pair of goals both came from Taylor Frerichs, scoring early in the middle period on the powerplay and late in the 3rd to bring the game within 3 goals. Zach Broxterman had an impressive outing in the blue paint for Badlands, making 45 saves in the victory. Loeffler made 21 saves in the loss.
