Generals keep perfect record alive with shootout win
Northeast 5 @ Danbury 4 (SO) – It took 24 combined shooters, but the Northeast Generals managed to keep their perfect record intact thanks to a 5-4 shootout win in Danbury on Tuesday night.
After the Generals opened up a 2-0 lead early in the 1st period with goals from Zach Sinople and Sean Gorman, Danbury stormed back later in the 1st period to take a 3-2 lead with two goals from Nikita Kovalev and another from Dylan Walker.
In the 2nd period, the Generals tied the game at 3-3 thanks to a goal from Matthew Nuzzolilo.
In the 3rd period, the teams traded goals as Nicholas Wracker scored for the Generals with Oleg Egorov answering for Danbury to make it 4-4.
After a scoreless overtime, the Generals finally would win in a shootout as their 12th shooter, Zach Sinople found the back of the net.
Generals goalie D’Mar McCoy made 24 saves in the win and stopped 11 of 12 shooters in the shootout. Brennan Churchhill made 53 saves in the loss.
