The North American 3 Hockey League (3HL) today announced the Three Stars of the Week presented by Combat Hockey for the week ending October 16, 2011. The Three Stars of the Week is a weekly feature during the 2011-12 regular season that honors the top performing players each week of the regular season as nominated by their respective teams.
1st Star: Parker Tomczyk, forward, Minnesota Flying Aces
Tomczyk, 20, recorded seven points (6 goals, 1 assist) in three games played this past week, as the Minnesota Flying Aces posted a 2-1-0 record during the week. After being held scoreless in Friday’s 1-0 win over Granite City, Tomczyk went off for two hat-tricks in back-to-back games. On Saturday, the Mosinee, Wisconsin, native had three goals in a close 7-6 loss at home against St. Louis. However, Tomczyk saved his best hockey for the final game of the weekend on Sunday when he recorded an even strength, power play and shorthanded goal, plus an assist in Minnesota’s 4-2 win over the Jr. Blues. “Parker has been as solid as they come and has worked very hard to get where he is at,” said Minnesota head coach Craig Larson. “He logs a lot of ice time because he can play two-way hockey and has a team-first mentality.”
2nd Star: Brandon Busse, forward, Twin City Steel
Busse, 17, recorded at least a point in all three of the Steel wins this past weekend, which also all came on the road against Quad City and Chicago. On Friday, the St. Paul, Minnesota, native had a goal in the Steel’s 7-3 win over the Jr. Flames. The next night, Busse recorded a hat-trick and added an assist as the Steel once again bested Quad City by a score of 5-3. On Sunday, he recorded an assist in a 5-1 win at Chicago giving him four goals and two assists during the three-game weekend. Busse currently leads all Steel scorers with 14 points in 13 games played.
3rd Star: Warren Carter, forward, Flint Jr. Generals
Carter, 20, played in just one game this past weekend, but it was one to remember as the forward from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, recorded four goals and an assist for a five-point game in Flint’s 11-1 win over Battle Creek on Friday. The four goals in one game equals a 3HL season-high. Three of the four goals came on the power play. Carter currently leads all 3HL scorers with 12 goals on the season. “Warren plays with high energy and he has a good work ethic,” said Flint head coach Jeff Worlton. “He is one of our captains and has shown some real leadership this season. You can tell he is working very hard to make this team successful and get an opportunity at the next level during that process.”
