Sunday Wrap-Up: Drillers, Lumberjacks keep winning big

Tucker Skime had five points in two games this weekend as Granite City improved their record to 11-0-1 with two more wins.

Louisiana 12 @ Mid Cities 1 – Colton Sebastian had a hat-trick and three assists as the Drillers completed a three-game weekend sweep of the Stars thanks to a 12-1 win on Sunday. It was all Drillers from the get go as they posted six goals in the 1st period, including the first from Sebastian, two from Cheeno Gryska, and others from Brody Neish, Jack Lambert, and Lukas Dany. Lambert and Neish would score again in the 2nd period to make it 8-0. Mid Cities then netted their lone goal from Reese O’Banion. Later in the game, the Drillers pulled further away with two goals from Austin Manns, and two more from Sebastian. Nic Clark made 20 saves in the win, while Aaron Palos made 11 saves and Garrett Johnson made 54 saves in the loss.

Granite City 10 @ New Ulm 2 – Parker Mitchell and Kyle Mortenson each had four-point games as the Lumberjacks rolled to a 10-2 win in New Ulm on Sunday. Things were tight after 20 minutes with the Lumberjacks holding a 3-2 edge with goals from Tucker Skime, Jacob McPartland, and Mortenson, while Lahoussine Salama and Jack Laser scored for the Steel. After that it was all Granite City, which included five more goals in the 2nd period, including two from Mitchell and others from Parker Comstock, Jack Louko, and Joe Greniuk. Reed Hanus and Dominic Thomas added 3rd period goals to complete the 10-2 final. Xander Roberts made 12 saves in the win, while Nolan Lacosse made 49 saves in the loss.

El Paso 3 @ Austin 2 – The Rhinos completed a three-game road sweep of the Ice Bats thanks to a 3-2 win on Sunday. After a scoreless 1st period, Austin jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd period with goals from Ben Allen and Austin Alcala. The Rhinos stormed back with goals from Payne Pent, Liam Sbrocca, and Trey Erramouspe. Phillip O’Neill made 25 saves in the win, while Collin Lemanski made 47 saves in the loss.

TX RoadRunners 2 @ TX Brahmas 5 – The Brahmas salvaged one win in the three-game series against the RoadRunners as they won 5-2 on Sunday. Michael Imala scored twice in the win and Riley Gorman made 31 saves. The Brahmas jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to 1st period goals from Keegan McArthur and Joseph Crowley, a 2nd period goal from Imala, and a 3rd period goal from Benjamin Mondou. The RoadRunners tried to comeback with 3rd period goals from Jack Herron and Eitan Geralnik, but another goal from Imala secured the win. Nash Wilson took the loss in goal for the RoadRunners making 16 saves.

Norwich 1 @ Danbury 2 (OT) – Ryan Maguire made 38 saves and Roman Winicki scored both goals for the Jr. Hat Tricks in a 2-1 overtime win over the visiting Sea Captains on Sunday. Norwich took an early 1-0 lead with their lone goal of the game from Brian Essing. Winicki would respond for Danbury less than four minutes later to make it 1-1. It took just :38 seconds in the overtime for Winicki to score again and net the game-winner. Andrew Yocum made 24 saves in the loss.
