Sunday Wrap-Up: RoadRunners, Drillers continue to roll in South

Ilnur Madiarov had three goals and an assist to help Mid Cities to their first win on Sunday.

New Mexico 0 @ TX RoadRunners 2: The RoadRunners blanked the Ice Wolves 2-0 thanks to a strong 36 save shutout performance from Hunter Hein. After a scoreless 1st, Derek Boutin picked up the first goal of the game 17 seconds into the 2nd period. Porter Wolk doubled the lead seven minutes into the final period. New Mexico’s Pierson Hiaslet made 15 saves in the loss. 

TX Brahmas 3 @ Atlanta 2 (OT): Michael Imala put home the game-winner 2:10 into overtime to lift his Brahmas past Atlanta on the road. After a scoreless opening period, Harrison Flaacke and Anthony O’Neal both buried for the Capitols and Imala buried his 1st of the game, giving Atlana a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes. Cameron Colberg tickled twine 1:38 into the final frame to tie the game and sent it to overtime. Brendan Forden took home the win making 23 saves while Damian Vandanacker kept out 37 shots for the Capitals. 

New Jersey 5 @ Long Beach 4: The Titans defeated Long Beach 5-4 to complete the series sweep. The game remained tied after one period as Long Beach’s Dylan Harbour and New Jersey’s George Hinds both found 1st period goals. In the 2nd, Jack Fitzpatrick potted a pair of goals for the Sharks and Zac Kretzschmer added another. Kurt Johnson also scored two in the 2nd for New Jersey and Ryan Talorico kept the score level with a goal. Sam Levin scored the eventual game winner 15:04 into the final frame. Daniel Antal picked up the win in the crease making 19 saves. Colten McIntyre kept out 17 shots in the loss. 

Bay State 0 @ Northeast 8: The Generals dominated Bay State on both ends of the ice, defeating them 8-0. McCarthy Reed and Mason Frary each scored for Northeast in the 1st. Scores from Nolan Zotter, Braeden Kennedy, Sean Gorman, and Matthew Nuzzolilo widened the gap in the 2nd. Dalten Wille and Gabe Coppo extended the lead in the 3rd with more goals. Ian Kangas stopped all eight shots he faced to secure the shutout. AJ Cooper and Jacob King both spent time in net for the Bobcats, combining for 48 stops. 

El Paso 2 @ Louisiana 3: Louisiana edged past the Rhinos 3-2 to secure the sweep and improve their win streak to nine games. Austin Manns and Rory Neish gave the Drillers a 2-0 lead through one period. In the 2nd, Noah Easterson buried a pair of goals for the Rhinos to get them back in it but Frank Steinway’s goal 6:28 into the period would be the eventual game winner. John Moriarty made 18 stops in the win while Christopher Burns kept out 35 for El Paso,

Mid Cities 6 @ Austin 4: The Mid Cities Jr. Stars picked up their first win of the season after defeating the Austin Ice Bats 6-4 on the road. Ilnur Madiarov, Dakota Brandom, Mitchell Blassingame, and Grant Hanifen all tickled twine in the opening period to get the Jr. Stars off to a hot start. Madiarov added his second of the game to make it 5-0 in the 2nd period. The Ice Bats made a strong push to comeback in the 3rd as Ryan Sprigg, Maddox Hoff, Al Evanyk, and Jaylen Mendez scored consecutive goals. Madiarov deposited an empty netter and dagger to pick up a hat trick and seal the win. Garrett Johnson made 45 saves for Mid Cities. Trace Wiles and Collin Lemanski combined for 42 stops for Austin. 

Norwich 3 @ Danbury 4: Despite a late push from the Sea Captains, the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks were able to hold on and defeat Norwich by a final score of 4-3. In the 1st, Sava Makarenko buried a pair of goals for Norwich while Brody Trew got Danbury on the board with a score. Roman Winicki and Antonio Felidi deposited goals in the 2nd to give Danbury the lead back. Oleg Egorov provided a bit of insurance for the Hat Tricks late in the 3rd. Chris Hamilton cut the deficit in half with 47 seconds remaining but it was too late. Ryan Maguire made 38 saves in the win while Andrew Yocum kept out 28 for Norwich.
