Topeka still perfect at Robertson Cup

The Topeka RoadRunners defeated the Alexandria Blizzard, 4-2, and the St. Louis Bandits and the Mahoning Valley Phantoms skated to a 3-3 tie on Day 2 of the three-day round-robin portion of the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament today at the Hardee’s Iceplex in Chesterfield, Mo.

In the early game, Steve Schafer and Eriah Hayes each struck for a goal and an assist for the RoadRunners, with Aaron Gens recording the game-winning marker.  Goaltender Bryce Merriam turned back 19 shots.

Kyle Bailey’s goal with 13 seconds remaining in regulation lifted the Phantoms to a 3-3 tie with St. Louis.  Kyle O’Kane recorded a goal and two assists for the Bandits, while Phantoms goaltender Garrett Bartus stopped 31 shots.

In the final day of the round robin, the Blizzard (0-2) will face off against the Phantoms (1-0-1) at 3 p.m. CST, while the Bandits (1-0-1) take on the RoadRunners (2-0) at 7:30 p.m.

The team with the most points after the round robin will advance to the Robertson Cup championship game on Sunday.  The winner of the semifinal game on Saturday will also advance to the championship game.
