High scoring games the story on Day 2 of the NA3HL Showcase

It was a big day for NA3HL offenses on Day 2 of the NA3HL Showcase in Blaine, MN. For all the boxscores and schedules, click here.

Toledo 10 vs. Battle Creek 2 – Toledo scored 7 power play goals on their way to a 10-2 win over Battle Creek on Saturday.  Toledo’s Jordan Prewitt had four goals and two assists, which included scoring the first three goals of the game.  Brett Podgorski had two goals and Brody Duncan, Kyler Omey, Austin Turner, and Ben Torchia also scored for Toledo.  Stephen Comperchio and Kyle Ware scored for Battle Creek.

Peoria 2 vs. Breezy Point 1 – In a battle of the goaltenders, it was Michael Parda’s 38 saves that bested Erikur Arnason’s 41 saves as the Mustangs edged the North Stars, 2-1.  After no scoring in the 1st period, Peoria scored twice in the 2nd period on goals from Cody Lichtenvoort and Cory Kettler.  Breezy Point answered with a goal in the 3rd period from Anthony Martinez, but could not get the equalizer past Parda for the tie.

Three Rivers 3 vs. Quad City 2 – The Vengeance won their second game at the Showcase as they edged Quad City, 3-2.  Three Rivers jumped out to a 3-0 lead through two periods on goals from Tyler Stockwell, Kevin Kenny and Alex Berardinelli.  Quad City mounted a ferocious comeback in the 3rd period with goals from Nathan Iaciancio and Tanner Litvinoff, but could not get the game tied.

Twin City 4 vs. Cleveland 1 – The Steel kept rolling at the Showcase with their second win in as many days as they handed the Lumberjacks just their fourth loss of the season in a 4-1 win.  Trey Hughes kept his hot hand going with the opening goal of the game for the Steel.  Ryan McAloon, Brody Peterson and Kegan Storjohann also scored for the Steel, while Scott Cuthrell had the lone goal for Cleveland.  The other star of the game was Steel goaltender Sawyer Marshall, who made 54 saves.

North Iowa 9 vs. Metro 0 – John Forseth scored four goals and had an assist to lead the Bulls to a 9-0 win over the Jets.  Matt Kroska had a four point night with two goals and two assists.  Patrick Sivets, Preston Blanek and Taylor Brown also had goals for the Bulls, who outshot Metro 63-37.  Despite the score differential, Aaron Davis made 37 saves in the Bulls shutout.

St. Louis 4 vs. Alexandria 1 – Brycon Johnson scored two, 3rd period goals to secure a 4-1 win for St. Louis over Alexandria on Saturday at the NA3HL Showcase.  Cody Guidorzi had the other two goals for the Jr. Blues, including the first goal and the game-winning goal in the 2nd period.  Ritchie Brown had the lone goal for the Blizzard.  With the win, the Jr. Blues ran their NA3HL-best record to 22-2-0.

Minnesota 4 vs. Michigan 2 – Minnesota outshot Michigan 43-25 on their way to a 4-2 win to stay perfect at the NA3HL Showcase.  After a scoreless 1st period, the Flying Aces scored three times in the 2nd period on goals from Alex Yde, Payton Trammel and Jared Spring, while Michigan scored twice on goals from Ethan Baker and John Arms.  Andre Pison added a 3rd period goal for insurance in the Minnesota win.

Flint 4 vs. Queen City 2 – The Jr. Generals scored the final three goals of the game in a 4-2 win over the Queen City Steam.  Trevor Knoll and Thomas Clayton scored for Queen City, but that was answered by Flint goals from Lucas McDiarmid, Nicholas Gnagni, Trevor Benaglio and Eric Jones.  Anders Franke made 29 saves in the win as Flint outshot Queen City 36-31.
