Pair of Bulls players make college plans

May 3, 2013

The USA Hockey Tier III National Champion and NA3HL Silver Cup Champion North Iowa Bulls have announced two recent college commitments.

Bulls goaltender Matthew Bartels has made an NCAA commitment to Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Augsburg College's NCAA Division III hockey team is a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, MIAC.  Bartels marks the fourth Bulls player to recently achieve his goal of playing college hockey.  "Matt as has been the "Franchise" goaltender for the North Iowa squad the last two years,” said Bulls head coach Todd Sanden.  “Matt has proven his ability not only to win games but to win big games including the NA3HL Silver Cup Championship game and the USA Hockey Tier III Junior National Championship game.  His performance when it counts is unmatched winning 11 straight games in the post season this year while posting a .958 save percentage.”

The North Iowa Bulls are also proud to announce that Bulls forward Bobby Chapman has accepted an offer to play for ACHA Division I Robert Morris University in Chicago, Illinois.   Bobby's prominence in the Bulls lineup was never more evident than against Granite City in the Semi-Finals of the NA3HL Silver Cup Championships where he scored the overtime winner.   Bobby's contributions at the USA Hockey Tier III National Championships did not go unnoticed, as his line scored the game winning goals in two of the five games including the game winner in the National Championship game.   "Bobby is a crowd favorite in Mason City with the Bulls fans and we could not be prouder of his achievements and wish him all the success that he deserves,” said Sanden. Chapman is the eighth Bulls player from this year’s team to advance his playing career with a post season commitment.

The North Iowa Bulls wish Matt Bartels and Bobby Chapman all the best in their new academic and hockey pursuits.

They join teammates Patrick Sivets-St. Olaf and Tony Paulson-Gustavus as players who are college bound for the 2013-14 playing season.  Good luck to all from their Bulls family.
