Weekend Review: Swords and Jets sweep

St. Louis Jr. Blues 3 @ Cincinnati Swords 4: Nick Haase scored a late third period power play goal to clinch a season opening win for the newly named Swords over last year’s division-winning Jr. Blues Saturday night. Swords Goaltender Alec Rounds was named the first star saving 26 of 29 shots on him. In a losing effort, Jr. Blues forward Andrew Kovacich scored two goals. Boxscore
Metro Jets 3 @ Pittsburgh Vengeance 2 (Shoot Out): Zach MacKay scored the decisive goal in the Metro Jets shoot out victory over the Pittsburgh Vengeance. TJ Krajewski added a goal and an assist for the Metro Jets, who pulled out the win after losing a two-goal advantage in the third period. Pittsburgh’s Nicholas Santiago scored on a penalty shot to open up the third period. Metro Jets Goalie Kameron Limburg had 31 saves in the win. Boxscore

St. Louis Jr. Blues 2 @ Cincinnati Swords 3: The Cincinnati Swords completed the opening weekend sweep of the St. Louis Jr. Blues powered by a three-goal surge in the third period. The Swords capitalized with two power play goals in the first two minutes of the final frame to take a lead they did not relinquish for the rest of the game. Braden Smith had a goal and an assist for Cincinnati, while Jr. Blues Goalie Connor Cothran had 23 saves in the loss. Boxscore
Metro Jets 3 @ Pittsburgh Vengeance 2: Goalie Trevor Kalinowski was the star of the Metro Jets 3-2 win over the home team Pittsburgh Vengeance. Kalinowski stopped 46 of 48 shots fired at him securing the sweep of the Vengeance. Cooper McLean, Cody Jones and Kyle Downey all scored goals for the winning Jets. Pittsburgh, in a losing effort, was deadly on the Power Play converting two of four opportunities scored by Joseph Randazzo and Cody Black. Boxscore
