Quest for D-I title continues for alumni

April 10, 2009

Miami-Ohio freshman goaltender Cody Reichard, a former Fairbanks Ice Dog, made 24 saves and freshman forward Alden Hirschfeld, a Mahoning Valley Phantoms graduate, scored the game-winning goal as the Red Hawks downed Bemidji State University, 4-1, in the first Frozen Four semifinal game at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C., on Thursday.

Miami, home to seven former NAHL players, will take on Boston University, which boasts nine NAHL alumni, for the NCAA Division I national championship after the Terriers defeated the University of Vermont, 5-4, in the other semifinal contest.

BU sophomore forward Colin Wilson, formerly of U.S. National Team Development Program, struck for two goals, including the game-winner, and an assist in the win over the Catamounts.

The national championship game is set for Saturday, April 11 at 7 p.m. ET
