RoadRunners' Rocker to Robert Morris

April 13, 2009

The Topeka RoadRunners have announced that second-year goaltender Lyle Rocker has committed to Robert Morris University (College Hockey America) for next season.

In 24 regular-season appearances, Rocker posted a 16-7 record to compliment a 2.48 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage.

“It’s every junior player’s goal to advance onto a Division I school," said Rocker. "I’m fortunate enough to get the chance to play at a great school for the next four years.”

“For this chance to come along for Lyle is great,” said RoadRunners head coach Scott Langer.  “He’s an outstanding player and will do well at Robert Morris University. This is a great steppingstone in his career.”

Rocker, a 21-year-old from Williamsville, N.Y., is quick to credit his teammates, Langer and RoadRunners owner Mary Magdalene Lorang for his success in Topeka that’s led to his Division I commitment.

"My team has always been there for me when I needed them, both on and off the ice,” he said.  “Not only are these boys my teammates, but they’re also my brothers and friends that I’ll have for the rest of my life.

“Coach Langer took a chance on me two years ago and has been a big part of me growing as a hockey player, and Mary Magdalene Lorang has not only been a wonderful owner in providing me the chance to play hockey, but she has also become a great mentor during the time I’ve known her.

“I thank all of those involved in the organization for helping me advance onto the next level in hockey."
