Sunday Wrap-Up: Peoria extends winning streak
Peoria Mustangs 3 @ St. Louis Jr. Blues 1: Connor Millard scored twice to break a 1-1 tie and ultimately give the Peoria Mustangs all the offense they would need to defeat the St. Louis Jr. Blues 3-1. There were offensive fireworks early in this game as both teams received goals in the first 5 minutes of the opening period. Andrew Scofield found the back of the net just 39 seconds into the game to give Peoria the early advantage. Andrew McGlynn tied the game up less than 3 minutes after the Scofield goal as he scored off an assist from defenseman Jacob DeBus. It then was the offense of Millard that would make the difference as he scored first 9:48 into the 1st period and then found the back of the net again 11:06 into the 2nd period. Topeka Capitals 3 @ Cincinnati Swords 1: Kole Hudson had a goal and an assist and Topeka Goaltender Jude Hull made 32 saves as the Topeka Capitals earned a weekend split beating the Cincinnati Swords 3-1. The Topeka Capitals jumped out to a two-goal lead with goals from Hudson and Hardijis Kupaks and held that lead until early into the third period. The Swords cut the lead to one when RJ Marshall finally beat Hull. Griffin Leach sealed the game from the Capitals as he scored a shorthanded goal with just over 10 minutes left in the game to keep the two-goal victory. Boxscore
Metro Jets 1 @ Flint Junior Generals 2: Both teams used the power play to score their goals but it was the home team Flint that got the game winner to extend their winning streak to 20 as they beat the Metro Jets 2-1. Metro goaltender David Montovani and Flint goaltender Anders Franke battled all night and the pair finally let their first goal by when Conor Durgan beat Montovani with just two seconds left in the 2nd period. Metro tied the game back up when Thom Luke scored on the power play at 6:37 into the 3rd period. The Junior Generals picked up the deciding goal with less than two minutes left in the game when Brett Leppek scored on the man advantage beating Montovani and keeping the Flint win streak alive.
