The Waldorf Warriors D1 Men's Hockey Team added a promising player who is a familiar face to many in the North Iowa hockey community.  The Warriors signed Manly native and Mason City High hockey alum Zak Molstad, a forward most recently with the Oregon Tradesmen of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL).

Molstad emerged as a star player at the junior hockey level.  Playing in 46 games in the 2023-24 season, Molstad scored 18 goals, good for second most on the Tradesmen.  He also assisted on 11 other goals for a total of 29 points on the season.

Prior to entering junior hockey, Molstad had a prosperous high school career for Mason City High School, the high school team nearest to Waldorf's Forest City, Iowa campus.  At MCHS, Molstad played 119 career games, scoring 45 goals and tallying 41 assists for a total of 86 career points.

"We are very excited to have Zak joining the team next year," said Waldorf Head Coach Mike Heitkamp. "It is always great when we can get local guys that can have the luxury of playing in front of their family. Zak is going to be a strong forward for us with smart hockey sense and the ability to score. We are looking forward to him doing great things for Waldorf Hockey next year!"

As hockey looks to grow in Iowa, Waldorf Hockey continues to aggressively recruit local talent.  Molstad joins fellow Iowans Luke Nemeth of Ames and Zane Redfern of Mason City.  Fellow Mason City High alumnus Zak Jiminez wrapped up a distinguished career for the Warriors in 2023-24.

The Waldorf D1 team played a nationally elite schedule in the 2023-24 season.  The Warriors played a total of 19 games against ACHA Top 25 competition, with 12 of them coming against Top 10 teams, and four of those against #1 ranked and defending National Champion Minot State.   Four of Waldorf's 2023-24 opponents advanced to the ACHA Division 1 National Tournament.

The Warriors will begin their 2024-25 slate of competition this September.
