More offense and more scouts highlight Day 2 of NA3HL Showcase

Monday Heroes: Wisconsin forward Jimmy McDermott (top) had two goals and an assist, including the overtime winner, while Connor Inger (bottom) led his Metro Jets to another win with two goals and two assists.

Evansville Jr Thunderbolts 4 vs. Oswego Stampede 2-The Evansville Jr Thunderbolts scored four in a row to come back and defeat the Oswego Stampede, 4-2. Two from Brandon Rozema, and one each from Rory Scott and Austin Cody lead the Thunderbolts to victory, while Eddie Cannon and Dylan Gulick found the back of the net for the Stampede. Evansville’s Spencer Gill made 35 saves, while Ben White notched 22 stops for Oswego.

Rochester Ice Hawks 0 vs. Missoula Junior Bruins 3-Missoula Junior Bruin Duncan Wiest made 18 saves for a 3-0 shutout victory over the Rochester Ice Hawks.  Austin Dennison, Rhys Cottle, and Hayden Moistner each scored one for Missoula. Rochester’s Luke Murphy stopped 12 shots.

Northeast Generals 2 vs. Wooster Oilers 8-The Wooster Oilers scored seven consecutive goals to defeat the Northeast Generals, 8-2. Zac Steele, Zach Zwierecki (3), Matthew Kesto (2), Turner Banyasz, and Cole Barney scored for the Oilers, while Austin Braley and Tyler Rudek got on the scoresheet for the Generals. Wooster’s Justyn Gillis made 24 saves, while Kyle Wagner and Lucas Souze made 25 and 13 stops, respectively, for Northeast.

Wausau RiverWolves 2 vs. Southern Tier Xpress 6-The Southern Tier Xpress extended their lead through the second period to come out on top against the Wausau RiverWolves, 6-2. Ty Rickabaugh, Reginald Hunter, Nick Wilcox, Mickenzie Restle, Joey Gerace, and Harry Payne each notched one for the Xpress, while Connor Moore and matt Irwin found the back of the net for the RiverWolves. Brandon Heacock made 20 saves in the win, while Henry Baribeau made 41 saves in the loss.

Breezy Point North Stars 8 vs. Bozeman Icedogs 5-The Breezy Point North Stars scored five goals in the third period to drive them to an 8-5 victory over the Bozeman Icedogs. Josh Maucieri, Reid Morin (2), Austin Langworthy, Jack Petroske, Noah Krueger, Zach Frasier, and Jared Fladebo, found the back of the net for the North Stars, while Bozeman’s Brodie Thornton (2), Cade Hanley, Gage Blatter, and Austin Charnholm each earned a goal. Micah Hershey picked up the win in goal, while Parker Orchard took the loss.

North Iowa Bulls 2 vs. Yellowstone Quake 1-The North Iowa Bulls held onto an early first period lead to come out on top, 2-1, over the Yellowstone Quake. Jarod Blackowiak and Josh Arnold scored for the Bulls, while Riley Buller found the back of the net for the Quake. Colin Cain picked up the win in goal for the Bulls, while Quake goalie Reid Waszczenko took the loss.

Wisconsin Whalers 5 vs. Helena Bighorns 4 (OT)-Wisconsin Whaler Jimmy McDermott scored late in overtime to secure a 5-4 victory over the Helena Bighorns. McDermott also scored in regulation, alongside Trevor Timm, Carter Grobstick, and Anthony Fortin. For Helena, Hunter Pierce, Richard Groskops, Kaden Lindberg, and Mikhail Gavrilenko got on the scoreboard. Wisconsin’s Brendan Earls made 26 saves, and Eric Berglund stopped 27 shots for Helena.

College Station Spirit 3 vs. Roc City Royals 1-College Station Spirit scored early to set the pace for a 3-1 win over the Roc City Royals. Luke Dacey, Mark Strazisar, and Chandler Murphy scored for the Spirit, and Raymond Corey Jr notched the lone Royal’s goal. College Station’s Ryan O’Toole made 38 saves, while Frederick Peters stopped 31 shots for Roc City.

Maine Wild 2 vs. Lansing Wolves 4-Tied after two, the Lansing Wolves scored twice in the third to secure a 4-2 victory over the Maine Wild. Brandon Ashley, Chris Seelye, Jacob Deratany, and Brendan Smith scored for the Wolves, while Brady Bannon and Jayce Dorman found the back of the net for the Wild. Lansing’s Will Ignatovich made 14 saves, while Ben Jenkins stopped 35 shots for Maine.

L/A Nordiques 2 vs. Metro Jets 7-A pair of goals from Griffin Sawyer and Connor Inger helped the Metro Jets to a 7-2 victory over the L/A Nordiques. Kyle Gierman, Matt Schaumburger, and George Hansen also scored for the Jets, while Nick Ventura and Cole Ouellette found the back of the net for the Nordiques. Metro goaltender Brian Tallieu made 7 saves, while Sage Broda stopped 18 shots for L/A.

New England Stars 2 vs. Pittsburgh Vengeance 3-The Pittsburgh Vengeance scored three in a row on their way to a 3-2 victory over the New England Stars. James Unger and Dominick Glavach (2) scored for the Vengeance, while New England’s goals came from Cole Archambeault and Connor Barter. Tyler Hawk made 21 saves in net for Pittsburgh, and Andrew Ghimpeteanu stopped 20 shots for the Stars.

Long Beach Sharks 2 vs. Toledo Cherokee 5-The Toledo Cherokee grabbed an early lead on their way to a 5-3 win over the Long Beach Sharks. Caleb Williams, EJ Gilbert, Josh Koback, Darren Carter, and Zachary Perry scored for the Cherokee, while Preston Larson and John Mears found the back of the net for the Sharks. Toledo goalie Alan Brouillette picked up the win, while Sharks goalie Ben Vuyci took the loss.

St Louis Jr Blues 2 vs. New Ulm Steel 4-The St Louis Jr Blues scored early, but four consecutive goals for the New Ulm Steel pushed them to victory, 4-2. Brian Oare, Tom Reilly, Steven Mordini, and Ryan Smith scored for New Ulm, while Jack Hatton notched both for the Jr Blues. In net, Hunter Smith made 31 saves for St Louis in the loss, while Ryan Kenny made 24 saves in the win for the Steel.

Skylands Kings 2 vs. Louisiana Drillers 3 (OT)-Louisiana Driller Brandon Vukasin scored the only third period goal, sending the game into overtime, where Timothy Zittel scored, delivering the 3-2 victory to the Drillers over the Skylands Kings. Tuckey Alspaugh also scored for the Drillers, and Stephen Finkel and Eric Vanderhoff found the back of the net for the Kings. Griffin Varricchio picked up the win in goal, while Mathias Yttereng took the OT loss.

Cape Cod Islanders 1 vs. Gillette Wild 3-A pair of goals from Gillette Wild’s Nick Stockert scored twice to secure a 3-1 win over the Cape Cod Islanders. Hunter Peterson also scored for the Wild, and Jack Conway notched one for the Islanders. Cody Grogan picked up the win in goal for the Wild, while Esa Maki took the loss for the Islanders.

Willmar WarHawks 3 vs. Atlanta Capitals 1-The Willmar WarHawks scored two in the first to get ahead and secure a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Capitals. Brandon Holt, Zach Martin, and Keegan Bauman scored for the WarHawks, while Trent Markley notched one for the Capitals. IN net, Kaden Ericson stopped 7 shots for Willmar, while Kyle Konin made 13 saves for Atlanta.

La Crosse Freeze 2 vs. Great Falls Americans 1-The Freeze scored late in the 3rd period to break a 1-1 deadlock and come away with their second straight win at the Showcase as they beat the Americans, 2-1. After a scoreless 1st period, La Crosse got on the board first late in the 2nd period as Brandon Ratzloff scored. Great Falls evened the game at 1-1 as Payton McSharry scored in the 3rd period, but a late goal from Matthew Francois secured the Freeze win. Jacob Silverstein made 12 saves in the win, while Bryan Sharp made 36 saves in the loss.

Binghamton Junior Senators 1 vs. Texas Brahmas 0-It took 59 minutes and 57 seconds, but someone finally scored in a goaltender’s duel as the Junior Sens picked up a late-game win over the Brahmas. A late 2 on 1 up the ice with very little time left saw Binghamton defenseman Dinmukhamed Dzhangarashev get the puck over to forward RC Randall, who slipped a backhand past Brahmas goalie Carson Murison. Binghamton goalie Brady Anderson picked up 36 saves in the shutout win.

Mid Cities Jr Stars 4 vs. Peoria Mustangs 2- A fast start propelled the Mid Cities Jr Stars to a 4-2 win over the Peoria Mustangs.  The Stars scored three times in the 1st period to jump out to an early lead, which included goals from Brandon Speights, Matt Hutton, and Tyler Schulz. After a scoreless 2nd period, the Mustangs made a comeback effort in the 3rd period with goals from Jack Radley and Cody Layne, but a Stars goal from Nick Sheridan secured the win. Nick Vanwinkle picked up the win in goal, while Dakota Meyer took the loss.

Granite City Lumberjacks 12 vs. Niagara Falls PowerHawks 0-An eight-goal 2nd period helped the Granite City Lumberjacks to a convincing 12-0 win over Niagara Falls on Monday. Brandon Bissett led the way for Granite City with two goals and three assists. The Lumberjacks scoring came from Chase DiBari in the 1st period, Matt Moran (2), Bissett (2), Zack DeBoom, Owen Sikich, Braden Altena, and Nick Catro in the 2nd period and in the 3rd period DeBoom added his second goal of the game and others came from Sam Ohmes and Logan Neu. Ridge Gerads posted the shutout, making 13 saves. Kris Augustine made 10 saves in the loss.

Alexandria Blizzard 7 vs. Point Mallard Ducks 0-Alexandria blew open a close game with six, 3rd period goals as they shutout the Ducks, 7-0. Blizzard forward Josiah Roen was the hero as he scored four goals and added an assist.  Other goals from the Blizzard came from Logan Nelson in the 1st period and Austyn Renn and Alec Skar in the 3rd period. Blizzard goalie Kyle Hayden was perfect in goal, stopping all 34 shots that came his way in the shutout. Chris O’Shaughnessy took the loss for the Ducks, making 29 saves.
