Helena goalie Buchholz makes NCAA commitment
The Helena Bighorns of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that goaltender Eric Buchholz has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for SUNY-Buffalo State.
Buchholz, 21, just completed his first season playing in the NA3HL and third season of junior hockey overall. The 5’11/160 lbs. native of Colorado Springs, CO, had an incredible first season in the NA3HL, posting a 24-2-2 record during the 2021-22 regular season, which included a 2.02 goals against average, which ranked 9th in the NA3HL and a .939 save percentage, which ranked tied for 2nd.
His regular season performance earned him a spot on the 2021-22 NA3HL All-Frontier Division team in addition to being named to the All-NA3HL 2nd Team.
Buchholz was selected to play in the 2022 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament, but was unable to participate.
In the Fraser Cup Playoffs, Buchholz was even better, posted a 6-1-1 record, which included two shutouts at the 2022 Fraser Cup Championship where he was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Prior to playing junior hockey, Buchholz spent two seasons in the NAPHL playing for the Colorado Springs Tigers. He spent the 2017-18 season with the Tigers 16U team and the 2016-17 season with the Tigers 15U team.
