Generals forward Gilleshammer makes NCAA commitment

July 1, 2022

The Northeast Generals, proud member of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), are pleased to announce that forward Nathan Gilleshammer has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Concordia University in Wisconsin.

Gilleshammer, 20, was acquired by the Generals at the trade deadline to help cement the depth down the middle of the ice. The 5'8/155 lbs. native of Crystal, ND, was slotted into a top 6 role and delivered, and helped the Generals to a historic season.

The Generals went 44-0 in the division and 45-2 overall before getting to the Fraser Cup Semi-Finals.  In 12 regular season games with the Generals, Gilleshammer had 4 goals and 11 assists for 15 points and a +15.  In the playoffs he was even better.  In 8 games he put up 1 goal, 7 assists for 8 crucial points.

Earlier in the 2021-22 season, Gilleshammer played for both the Sheridan Hawks and Mason City Toros. While with Sheridan, he had 13 points in just seven games. While with Mason City, he recorded 21 points in 28 games played.

“Darryl and I decided we needed depth at center and targeted Nathan after playing (and losing) to Mason City in the NA3HL Showcase.  He is a gritty player that is dynamic in open ice.  He came in and from Day 1 was a huge impact player for us both on and off the ice.  We had one of the younger rosters in the league so getting a 2001 was important.  We wanted to add a veteran presence.  It was awesome to see how quickly the boys welcomed him and how great Nathan was.  He was a huge factor in our historic season and we can’t wait to watch him at Concordia.  They are getting a great player and person," said GM Bryan Erikson.

Head Coach Darryl Locke added, “Happy for Nathan.  A great kid that bought into what we were doing right away.  He brought skill but also physicality to our lineup.  Being an older player he also helped show the younger guys what they needed to do in order to be ready for every shift.  We are proud of our group from 2021-22 and excited that Nathan made such a huge impact.  We can’t wait to see him have the same success that all of our guys do at the next level.”

Overall in 86 craeer NA3HL games in two seasons, Gilleshammer had 82 points.
