New Mexico defenseman Axell makes NCAA commitment

The New Mexico Ice Wolves of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that defenseman Evan Axell has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Axell is the first commitment in New Mexico Ice Wolves NA3HL franchise history.

Axell, 20, the New Mexico Ice Wolves captain, has scored 35 points in 25 games this season including 18 goals and 17 assists. He is also averaging 1.40 points per game and has a plus/minus of +22 during the 2022-23 season.

The 6’2/182 lbs. native of Plymouth, MN, was named the NA3HL’s defenseman of the month for November 2022, as he totaled 23 points in 11 games during the month.

The defenseman will join the UW-Superior Yellow Jackets hockey team next fall who competes in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
