New Mexico goalie Stokes makes NCAA DI commitment
Carsen Stokes was the Most Valuable Player of the 2021 Fraser Cup Championship and the 2020-21 NA3HL Rookie of the Year.
The New Mexico Ice Wolves of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that goaltender and NA3HL alum Carsen Stokes has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Northern Michigan University in the CCHA.
Stokes, 21, is currently competing in his second season in the NAHL and third season of junior hockey overall. The 5’10/175 lbs. native of Prior Lake, MN, has appeared in 31 games so far during the 2022-23 season and posted a 15-12-3 record, which includes a 2.80 goals against average and a .906 save percentage.
“I’m extremely proud and honored to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey and further my education at Northern Michigan University. I thank my family, teammates, and coaches who helped me get here! Excited for what the future holds,” said Stokes.
Stokes made his junior hockey debut in 2020-21 with the North Iowa Bulls in the NA3HL. He appeared in eight games during the regular season, but really shined in the Fraser Cup Playoffs that season as he led the Bulls to the Fraser Cup Championship with a 8-1-1 record in the playoffs. Stokes was named the Fraser Cup Championship Most Valuable Player and named to the All-Tournament Team.
Stokes was named the NA3HL Rookie of the Year and also named to the 2020-21 All-NA3HL 2nd team that season.
In 2021-22, he spent time in the NAHL between the North Iowa Bulls and New Mexico Ice Wolves. In 14 games played, he posted a 9-2-1 record.
Prior to playing junior hockey, Stokes played his youth hockey for Shattuck-St. Mary’s Prep School for four seasons.
