Toros announce new coaching staff

New Mason City Head Coach Mark Hicks.

The Mason City Toros, proud members of the NA3HL, are excited to announce veteran coach Mark Hicks as new head coach and the addition of Tommy Adams as assistant coach. 

Mark Hicks has been involved with Mason City Junior Hockey for decades. Most recently, Hicks has served as assistant coach to both the North Iowa Bulls of the NAHL and the Mason City Toros. Prior to his help with the Bulls and Toros Hicks came to Mason City in 1995 to coach with the North Iowa Huskies of the USHL and would go on to help coach the North Iowa Outlaws of the NAHL. Since his time in Mason City, Hicks played big roles in Mason City youth hockey as well including the MCYH Director. 

“I am excited, blessed and thankful for the opportunity to step into the head coaching role with the Toros,”  said Hicks, “I have been with the team since season one and look forward to building on the great tradition we have built here.  I will continue to strive toward getting players to the next level, competing for the Fraser Cup, helping young men grow in life as well as helping the game of hockey grow in North Iowa for players of all ages and the fans as well.”

Hicks, originally from Calgary Alberta, came to the United States to play NCAA hockey for the University of Wisconsin, Eau Clair. After his four year playing career at Eau Clair, Hicks went on to play professionally for the Toledo Storm and the Richmond Renegades of the ECHL. Hicks was inducted into the University of Wisconsin Eau Clair Athletic Hall of Fame on 2007. 

Tommy Adams joins the Toros from the New Ulm Steele of the NA3HL. In New Ulm, Adams acted as the assistant/goalie coach for the Steele. Prior to the Steele, Adams  coached with Wayzata hockey association (Wayzata MN) and Attitude goaltending out of Minneapolis. As a prior goaltender, Adams played junior hockey in Ontario, Canada, along with the Alexandria Blizzard in the NA3HL.
