The Northeast Generals, proud members of the NA3HL, are thrilled to announce that standout goaltender Ian Kangas has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN.

Kangas, 20, joined the Generals for the 2022-23 season and was dominant right out of the gate.  The 6’2/209 lbs. native of Virginia, MN, had an undefeated season going 17-0-0 and then 1-0 in the playoffs, helping lead the Generals to the best record in the NA3HL and a place in the Fraser Cup Championship.

During the season Kangas had staggering numbers.  He posted a 1.50 Goals Against Average (Best in the NA3HL) and a .933 save percentage while pitching 4 shut outs.

The wins didn’t stop there as Ian was recognized for his outstanding play.  He was selected to the 2023 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament for Team East, and won the following hardware at the end of the 2022-23 season: NA3HL All Divisional Team Goalie, NA3HL East Division Rookie of The Year, and NA3HL Second All Rookie Team.

“Ian was great from Day 1.  He is a great kid that put up fantastic numbers that were amazing.  We are really proud of Ian and that his outstanding play has been recognized by a great University like Augsburg.  We look forward to watching Ian this year at the NCAA level,” said Generals Head Coach Darryl Locke.
