Saturday Scores: Buzz Score First NA3HL Win

September 8, 2024

Loghan Weber scored the overtime winner and finished the night with five points

Binghamton 4 @ Long Beach 3 - The Binghamton Buzz survived a late comeback against the Long Beach Sharks Saturday evening, giving the Buzz their first regulation win in team history after joining the NA3HL in May. Led by coach Gaetano Moirano, the Buzz found themselves in a scoreless gridlock early with the Sharks. Mason Wright broke the stalemate with a goal late in the first period to score the first goal in Buzz franchise history, with Griffin Gagnon on the assist. Joey Roselli would follow just over a minute later on a standalone goal to give the Buzz a 2-0 lead at the end of the first. The Buzz’s lead further grew from goals by Trent Midura and Jason DiMatteo, the latter assisting on Midura’s goal alongside Keegan Elliott. Down 4-0, the Sharks got a spark from forward Mason Jackson, giving his team a goal with 4:42 to go in the second period. A quick goal early in the third period from Robert Johnson V cut the Buzz’s lead to 4-2, and despite a goal in the final 30 seconds by Sam O’Neil to bring the Buzz’s lead down to one, the Sharks failed to complete the comeback. DiMatteo of the Buzz led both teams in scoring, with a goal and an assist.

Gillette 6 @ Butte 7 (OT) - The Butte Irish defeated the Gillette Wild 7-6 in overtime. While the end result went Butte’s way, things started rocky for the home side. Gillette jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Zach Lebens and Colton Ruesser. Butte responded less than two minutes later as Andrew Browe slashed the lead in half. The momentum continued to swing in Butte’s direction as the Irish struck on the power play soon after as Loghan Weber tied the game at two before Sebaquien Chlud gave his team the lead. Butte lead 3-2 after a period. The Irish began the second period with more than four minutes of power play time and cashed in twice. Kazden Stineff found the back of the net before Browe potted his second goal of the game to make it 5-2 Butte. Gillette would not go away, though, as a power play goal from Rocco Corl was followed just 1:02 later by Max Artl’a goal. The second period ended with the score knotted at five as Tai Kontrac added a power play marker of his own at 16:45. In the third, Landon Metcalfe put Gillette back in front on the power play but was answered by Browe less than a minute later. The goal gave Browe a hat trick and tied the game at six. 60 minutes could not separate these teams as they headed to overtime. Butte would find the OT winner as Weber recorded his second goal and fifth point of the night to secure the Irish victory. Browe also tallied five points in the win as Butte improved to 2-0-0 on the young season.

Helena 7 @ Yellowstone 0 - The Helena Bighorns completed the sweep of the Yellowstone Quake with a 7-0 victory on Saturday night. Brandon Mcilhany and Finn Theriault each led the offensive attack with two goals apiece. Austin Decker, G’bari Mayers and Kolin Krizan also got on the scoresheet for the Bighorns. Malik Johnson picked up the shutout in between the pipes for Helena, stopping all 13 shots he faced. Nicholas Ulyanov was busy all night long as he ended the night making a whopping 77 saves for the Quake.

Sheridan 1 @ Great Falls 3 - The Great Falls Americans improved to 1-1 after defeating the Sheridan Hawks 3-1. Five minutes into the contest, Ty O’Bey opened the scoring for Great Falls. Zac Orwig and Garren Narvaez extended the Americans’ lead to three. Vincent Leaf, with his third goal of the season, got the Hawks on the board. Unfortunately, the Hawks scored only once on their eight power play opportunities and 37 shots on goal. The Americans, however, scored on two-of-their-seven power play chances. The Americans will have a back-to-back next weekend with the Bozeman Icedogs, while Sheridan will play back-to-back against the Gillette Wild.
