Sunday Wrap Up: Generals, Ice Bats and Drillers Win on Sunday

The Drillers took two of three from the El Paso Rhinos this weekend

Norwich 1 @ Northeast 4 - The Northeast Generals claimed a victory over the Norwich Sea Captains Sunday evening. The Generals opened the scoring early in the first period with a short-handed goal from Michael McLaughlin. In the second period, the Generals gained a 2-0 lead with Samuel Gusty finding the back of the net. Just a minute later, Norwich attempted to make a comeback with a goal from Chase Leivian. With 10 seconds remaining in the second period, Mason Frary netted a goal for the Generals to make the score 3-1 heading into the third period. The General’s Liam Schaentzler scored the final goal of the night on a power play early in the third period. Norwich’s goaltender, Peter Alfano, saved 25 out of 29 shots in the loss, while Northeast’s goaltender, Jascha Grossenbacher, saved an impressive 49 saves out of 50 shots for the win.

New Mexico 0 @ Austin 2 - The Austin Ice Bats earned a hard fought victory over the New Mexico Ice Wolves Sunday afternoon. No scoring took place in the first period. In the second period, Arys Perardi netted a power play goal for the Ice Bats less than a minute in. Kaiden Gordon scored an empty net goal late in the third period to secure the 2-0 victory for Austin. New Mexico’s netminder, Ryan Wallin had 16 saves out of 17 shots in the loss, while Austin’s Gavin Morris saved all 38 shots he faced.

El Paso 2 @ Louisiana 5 - The Louisiana Drillers defeated the El Paso Rhinos at home 5-2. El Paso kicked off the scoring late in the first period with a power play goal from Nicholas Maffeo. The Drillers tied the game early in the second period with Max Workman finding the back of the net. In the third period, Louisiana’s Johnathan Berndt and Workman both scored goals to give the team a 3-1 lead. El Paso’s Kacper Gach managed to net a goal for the team, but the Driller’s retaliated back quickly with goals from Dayton Ruppel and Casper Rys Sakrisvold to ultimately secure the win for Louisiana.
