Sunday Wrap-Up: Rhinos Take Rubber Match Against Ice Wolves
New Mexico 3 @ El Paso 4 - Three power play goals helped the El Paso Rhinos defeat the New Mexico Ice Wolves 4-3 on Sunday evening. Derrick Pedersen and Issa Murakami traded goals in the opening frame while Brant Tiedeman and Jake Bamback swapped goals in the second. In the final frame, Britton Oldham netted his first two goals of the season which gave the Rhinos a 4-2 lead. Murakami’s second goal of the game got New Mexico within one and that’s as close as they would get as the Rhinos would skate away with the victory. Nathan Graybill was the winner in goal with 28 stops. Jaxon Washburn suffered the loss in between the pipes, finishing the evening with 23 saves.
Austin 2 @ Texas B 6 - The Texas Brahmas salvaged the third game of their three game set with the Austin Ice Bats, winning on Sunday 6-2. The teams traded goals in the opening period as Arys Perardi and Guhnar Hillman netted goals for Austin while Carter Kotrba and Nikolai Meshkantsov found the back of the net for Texas. Jake Malzone broke the tie in the second period and the Brahmas held the lead after 40 minutes. In the third back to back goals from Ryan Glomboske and Breck Buettner gave Texas a two goal lead before Meshkantsov netted his second of the game to put it away for the Brahmas. Luke Romney denied 23 of 25 shots to earn the win in goal while Gavin Morris made 39 saves in a losing effort.
