Saturday Scores: Big bounce back win for Badlands

December 8, 2024

Binghamton 2 @ New Hampshire 5 - 5 separate goal scorers powered the New Hampshire Jr Mountain Kings to a 5-2 win over the Binghamton Buzz on Saturday. The lone goal of the first came from Gabriel Laszewski, and Binghamton led after 20 minutes, but that would not last long. Aidan Palmeter would answer, and then 70 seconds later Tommy Titone would give New Hampshire the lead. Ethan Miller would respond for Binghamton, but then once again, Noah Levesque would give the Kings the lead heading to the break. Gleb Zyrianov and Jacob Landry would seal the deal with late goals.

Maine 2 @ Long Beach 4 - The Long Beach Sharks were victorious on Saturday, defeating the Maine Nordiques by a final of 4-2. Sam O’Neil would open the scoring for Long Beach, but Carter Walls would equalize to send the game hurtling to the first intermission deadlocked at a goal apiece. The lone goal of the second belonged to Alec Dahlvang, and Long Beach led after 2 periods. In the third, Mason Jackson would double the lead. Kael Bilick would get one back for Maine, but Michal Stojka would seal the game for Long Beach.

Tulsa 1 @ Louisiana 5 - 2 goals from Dayton Ruppert would be enough for the Louisiana Drillers to defeat the Tulsa Jr. Oilers by a final of 5-1. Ruppert and Cooper Smolin traded goals in the first, before Isaac Erickson and Max Workman buried late goals to give Louisiana the 2 goal lead. Brody Neish and Ruppert would each bury second period goals to seal the win for the Drillers.

Rochester 9 @ Peoria 3 - 3 goals from Isaac Flatley and a pair each from Tyler Steuck and Andrew Bastian would be more than enough for the Rochester Grizzlies to take care of the Peoria Mustangs by a final of 9-3. Tyler Steuck, Twanne Haisma, Aidan Emerich and Flatley would all tally first period goals, but Johnny Switzer would get one back for Peoria. The second period would be all Grizzlies, as Bastian would bury both of his, and Flatley would tally his second to give Rochester a 7-1 lead after 2 periods. In the third, Rex Rhodes and Chase Benbow would score for Peoria, but Steuck and Flatley would both tally to seal the win.

New Jersey 3 @ Northeast 6 - A Liam Schaentzler hat trick would lead the Northeast Generals to a 6-3 win over theNew Jersey Titans. In the first, Schaentzler and Even Yates would score for the Gens, but Juno Ryu would chop the lead in half. The lone goal of the second belonged to Connor Kelly, and this game went to the second intermission deadlocked at 2, but not for long, as Schaentzler, Aidan Anderson and Ryan Solari would all score in a barrage of goals. Nicholas Lampreht would get one back for the Titans, but it would be too little too late.

Granite City 3 @ Minnesota W. 2 - A back and forth physical contest saw the Granite City Lumberjacks defeat the Minnesota Wilderness by a final of 3-2. In the first, Teagan Dodge would score for Granite City, but Jake Hodd-Chlebeck would get one back for the Wilderness. The lone goal of the second belonged to Coltin Johnson for Granite City. Parker Comstock would double the Granite City lead early in the third. Jordan Fanti would chop the lead in half late, and the Wilderness push for an equalizer would be snuffed out by a rock solid Granite City defensive performance.

Wisconsin 2 @ Minnesota M. 1 (OT) - 60 minutes would not be enough, but Josh Kauppinen would be the hero and give the Wisconsin Woodsmen a 2-1 overtime win over the Minnesota Moose. The scoring would open up midway through the second, where Wisconsin would get on the board courtesy of Hugh Deinema. The Moose would tie the game late, as Luke Steffen buried the extra attacker goal to send the game to overtime, where Kauppinen would send the visitors home happy with a win.

El Paso 1 @ Texas B. 11 - A balanced attack saw the Texas Brahmas defeat the El Paso Rhinos by a final of 11-1. An 8 point night from Joseph Crowley led the way for Texas, while Chase Forry would have a 4 point day, and Nikolai Meshkantsov would have another 5 point night. The lone goal scorer for El Paso would be Joseph Gutierrez.

West Bend 3 @ Alexandria 2 - West Bend and Alexandria played a closely contested first period with neither side allowing a goal. However, the second period was another matter. The Power scored all three of their goals in the middle frame. And while Alexandria did put up a fight, it wasn’t enough. West Bend defeated the Blizzard 3-2 on the road on Saturday night. Quinn O’Connor scored a goal and added an assist to lead the way offensively. Meanwhile, goalie Adam Prokop stopped 32 of 34 shots faced to help his team to victory.

Mason City 5 @ Willmar 2 - The hosting Willmar WarHawks generated the vast majority of the shots on Saturday night. Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t turn their high shot volume into a ton of goals. In fact, they entered the first intermission down 3-0 despite holding the Mason City Toros to just 10 shots. Willmar turned in a better second period performance, scoring twice – with the first goal coming nine seconds into the frame. However, it wasn’t enough. Two late third-period goals condemned the WarHawks to a loss in front of their home fans.

Texas (RR) 2 @ New Mexico 3 - The hosting New Mexico Ice Wolves dominated the first two periods of this contest. In fact, they outshot the Texas RoadRunners 33-9 through the second intermission. However, they blew a two-goal lead, giving Texas a lifeline despite their lack of shots. In the end, though, the Ice Wolves scored a goal in the latter half of the third period to salvage a 3-2 win. Wyatt Mineheine scored twice to lead New Mexico’s offensive effort.

Austin 8 @ Atlanta 1 - The visiting Austin Ice Bats were right at home against the Atlanta Capitals on Saturday night. The Ice Bats got off to a 7-0 lead before the Capitals finally scored to avoid a shutout. Forward Gunnar Hillman scored a hat trick in this game to help the Ice Bats to an 8-1 victory. Austin puckstopper Bryson Frazee turned aside 29 shots on goal to keep Atlanta from matching the Ice Bats offensively, as well.

Great Falls 1 @ Helena 3 - Helena’s last loss came to the Great Falls Americans on November 16. With a five-game winning streak under their belts, the Bighorns wanted to make up for their previous defeat on Saturday night. It was a closely contested game, but in the end, the hosts achieved their goal. The Bighorns scored twice in the third period to pull away from Great Falls and pick up another win, pushing the winning streak to six games.

Gillette 2 @ Badlands 5 - The Gillette Wild opened the scoring less than two minutes into Saturday’s game. But they allowed the hosting Badlands Sabres to score twice before the end of the frame. In the second period, Badlands scored a little over two minutes in to increase their lead. The Wild cut the lead to one goal late in the second thanks to Dylan Peterson, but could not catch up. Two third period goals put the finishing touches on a Sabres victory. Zack Vockler scored twice in the first period to lead the way for the hosts offensively.

Bozeman 9 @ Butte 1 - The Butte Irish gave their home fans something to cheer for early, scoring 58 seconds into the game. However, that would be their only goal on the night. The Bozeman Icedogs scored nine unanswered goals to cruise to victory on Saturday night. Devin Burns scored a hat trick for the Icedogs, while Spencer Wilkinson added two goals of his own to lead the charge.

Yellowstone 4 @ Sheridan 7 - The winless Yellowstone Quake had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 against the Sheridan Hawks on Saturday. Unfortunately, they could not keep up with the hosts, and fell for the 26th time this season. Elijah Farris scored twice for the Hawks to lead the way offensively. Meanwhile, Kadin Edwards, Derek Laite, and Connor Hulett each scored two points to further contribute to Sheridan’s win over Yellowstone.
