Exciting Finishes Highlight Day 2 of Showcase

Sheridan 0 @ West Bend 3 - Despite a 54 save effort from Sheridan goaltender John Simon, the West Bend Power defeated the Sheridan Hawks by a final score of 3-0 on Monday morning to open day 2 of the NA3HL showcase. The lone goal of the first belonged to Odin Klebba, and goals in the second from Tommy Kundiger and one in the third from Trace Shumlas would be all the goal scoring the Power would need.
Willmar 4 @ Maine 2 - Three goals in the third, part of four separate goal scorers on the morning, would power the Willmar Warhawks to a 4-2 win over the Maine Nordiques on Monday. Luke Pomerleau would open the scoring for the Nordiques, but just 34 seconds later, Carson Wendorff would equalize, sending the game to the first intermission deadlocked at a goal apiece. The lone goal of the second belonged to Krisjanis Graholskis, and Maine would lead by a goal after two. The third would be all Willmar, as goals from Max Jackson, Zane Irion, and an Aidan Callaghan empty net goal would be enough for Willmar to complete the comeback.
Austin 3 @ Rochester 2 (SO) - 60 minutes would not be enough, but the shootout would pay dividends as the Austin Ice Bats defeated the Rochester Grizzlies by a final of 3-2. The teams would trade goals in the first, as Austin would strike first on the stick of Aiden Deluna, while Rochester would answer via Ben Parent. The lone goal of the second belonged to Ashton Morin, and Austin would lead by a goal after two periods. Isaac Flatley would knot the game at two goals apiece, and it would head to overtime. Plenty of chances, but no goals in the extra session, so the game would head to a shootout, where Taras Korotchenko would be the hero for Austin.
Norwich 0 @ Louisiana 3 - In the first period, Brody Neish scored a goal for the Drillers with help from Jake Bergstrom and Roman Vitolo. Max Workman added another goal assisted by Johnathon Berndt and Neish. The second period remained scoreless. During the third period, Workman scored his second goal of the game assisted by Dayton Ruppel. Lucas Vellequette made 23 saves for the Norwich Sea Captains and Finn Willson made 20 saves for the Louisiana Drillers for the shutout.
New Mexico 4 @ Northeast 1 - The first period remained scoreless. In the second period, Northeast’s Charlie Burchfield scored a goal with help from Francisco Romano and Michael McLaughlin. Zak Wentworth tied up the game for the Ice Wolves with a goal assisted by Koen Burkholder and Dantae Hunziker. During the third period, Jake Wenner increased the lead for New Mexico with a goal assisted by Wentworth. Liam Mooney added another goal assisted by Calahan Butler and Tristen Babich. Hunziker scored a goal with help from Wentworth. Jaxon Washburn made 19 saves for the New Mexico Ice Wolves and Jascha Grossenbacher made 42 saves for the Northeast Generals.
Minnesota M 3 @ Atlanta 1 - The first period remained scoreless. In the second period, Minnesota’s Gavin Jensen scored a goal with help from Owen Meyer and George Daravingas. Meyer scored a goal assisted by Luke Steffen and Jensen. In the third period, Brett Phillips put the Capitals on the board with a goal assisted by Brad Camp. Brecken Meyer scored an unassisted goal to clutch the win for the Moose. Bennet Reinhard made 11 saves for the Minnesota Moose and Cooper Langley made 34 saves for the Atlanta Capitals.
Peoria 5 @ Yellowstone 0 - Peoria blanks Yellowstone in the NA3HL Showcase. The Mustangs dominated the Quakes in their matchup, registering 60 shots compared to Yellowstone’s 19. Peoria’s Wyatt Duke got the scoring started only 46 seconds into the game with his fourth goal of the year. Skyler Tompkins then followed that up just over two minutes later, scoring for the sixth time in 2024. Duke potted his second and the team’s third tally of the period at 17:26 to extend the Mustang lead. Peoria continued to add to their lead with two more goals late in the second. Rex Rhodes and Nickolas Martin each scored their fourth goal of the season just 20 seconds apart late into the middle frame. Goaltenders Albert Ancinec and Chase Ebeyer kept the game scoreless in the final 20 minutes. Ancinec stopped all 19 shots he faced in the Peoria win. Ebeyer made 55 stops on 60 attempts for Yellowstone. Peoria improves to 5-18-0-0 (10 points) in the win, while Yellowstone drops to 0-29-1-0 (1 point) on the year. Both teams sit in last place in their respective divisions.
New Jersey 3 @ El Paso 1 - Three different goal scorers powered the New Jersey Titans to a 3-1 win over the El Paso Rhinos on Monday afternoon. Goals in the first from William Fliss and Juno Ryu would give the Titans a 2 goal lead after one. The second would net a single goal, coming off the stick of Vladimir Zakharov, and the Titans would have a three goal lead heading into the third. Kacper Gach would get one back for El Paso, but it would be too little too late
Texas B 4 @ Wausau 0 - The Texas Brahmas would continue their hot streak winning their 6th game in a row, defeating the Wausau Cyclones by a final of 4-0. A pair of goals in the first from Chase Forry and Kayden Jones staked the Brahmas to an early lead, and they would double that lead in the second, as goals from Joseph Crowley and Carter Kotrba would deliver the 4-0 win.
New Hampshire 1 @ Great Falls 2 - The Great Falls Americans defeated the New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings by a final of 2-1 on Monday afternoon. An early New Hampshire goal off the stick of Tommy Titone gave the Jr. Mountain Kings an early lead, but Sebe Perez would equalize for Great Falls to keep the game even after one. The lone goal of the second, the game winner, belonged to Cal Laggis. New Hampshire would desperately try to get the equalizer, but the Americans defense would prove to be enough.
Butte 4 @ Texas R 2 - Butte comes from behind, tops Texas in NA3HL Showcase. The Roadrunners opened the scoring, just over halfway through in first period with Noble Cook netting his ninth goal of the season. However, the Texas lead did not last long. The Irish swiftly struck back through Andrew Browe’s 17th goal of the year. The game went to the first intermission tied at one apiece. The Roadrunners retook the lead in the second. Skylar Bawcom extended his team-lead in scoring, potting his 21st just over five minutes into the middle frame. Just like in the first, Butte answered before the intermission. This time Easton Langemo scored his 13th goal to tie the game at two. The third period belonged to Butte’s Kazden Stineff. The forward grabbed his 16th goal of the year 5:35 into the third to give the Irish the lead before adding his second of the game, and 17th of the year, about seven minutes later. Goaltender Logan Hunter was solid in net for Butte in the 4-2 victory. He made 34 saves while Texas’ Hunter Houle made 23 stops in 27 tries. The Irish improve to 13-13-1-0 (27 points) on the season and sit sixth in the Frontier Division. Texas falls to 11-15-2-0 (24 points) with the loss but remains fifth in the South Division.
Mason City 2 @ Bozeman 1 - Mason City defeated Bozeman in a low-scoring affair. All the game’s offense came in a 6:29 span in the second half of the first period. Bozeman’s Ryan McCreary opened the scoring at 11:26. It was McCreary’s first goal of the season. The Toros found an answer to the Icedog tally later in the period. Luca Salak found the back of the net for the ninth time to tie the game at one. Mason City did not wait long to push themselves into the lead. Stone Resch followed Salak just 54 seconds later with his sixth goal of the year. Resch’s marker ended up as the game-winning goal as goaltenders Sawyer Torkelson and Jack Ryan locked the game down over the final 42 minutes. Torkelson stopped 30 of 31 shots he faced for Mason City in the win. Ryan made 40 saves in 42 tries for the Icedogs. The Toros improve to 13-12-3-1 (30 points) and sit in third place in the West Division. Bozeman drops to 14-10-1-1 (30 points) in the losing effort but remains in fifth in the Frontier Division.
Alexandria 4 @ Binghamton 2 - Four separate goal scorers powered the Alexandria Blizzard to a 4-2 victory over the Binghamton Buzz on Monday. Goals in the first came from Zach Benson and Markus Olson for Alexandria, and Carson Curry would half the Blizzard lead, and the game would skid into the first intermission deadlocked at 2-1. Goals in the second from Caleb Waller and Blake Breiland would seal the win for the Blizzard. Tyler Hamlin would get one back in the third for Binghamton, but it would not be enough.
St. Louis 4 @ Badlands 0 - St. Louis blanked Badlands as Travis Visvadra stopped all 18 shots he faced on the evening. The Jr. Blues opened the scoring in the back-half of the first period. Jack Reuss grabbed his fifth goal of the season as St. Louis led 1-0 after 20 minutes. The Jr. Blues added a pair of goals in the middle frame. Kelly Coldwater potted his third of the season in the first three minutes of the period before Kyle Settles scored on the power play with under four minutes to play. It was Settles’ eighth of the year to tie him for the team lead. Brady Cook put the final tally on the board in the final frame to bring the game to its 4-0 final. Visvadra notched the shutout while Oger Hunter made 28 saves in 32 tries for the Sabres. St. Louis improves to 9-9-3-0 (21 points) this season and sit fifth in the Central Division. Badlands drops to 14-11-3-2 (33 points) and ranks fourth in the Frontier Division. The Sarbes are two points behind third place Great Falls and three points ahead of fifth place Bozeman.
Long Beach 2 @ Gillette 5 - Two goals from Max Arlt powered the Gillette Wild to a 5-2 win over the Long Beach Sharks. A high scoring first period saw Gillette net goals from Zach Lebens, Hudson Fisher, and Arlt, with a response from Spencer Nicoloff for Long Beach. The second was all Gillette, as goals from Riley Schmidt and Arlt gave the Wild a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes. Mason Jackson would get one back for Long Beach in the third, but it would be too little too late
Minnesota W 5 @ Wisconsin 7 - Four goals from Maxim Lazo would give the Wisconsin Woodsmen a 7-5 win over the Minnesota Wilderness. Goals in the first for Minnesota came off the stick of Kaden Rocheleau, King and Simon Davidson, with a responding goal from Justin Funk, gave the Wilderness a 3-1 lead after one period. In the second, Lazo would net two goals for the Woodsmen, while Eddy Retzlaff would maintain a Wilderness lead, bringing the game to the second intermission with a Wilderness 4-3 lead. The third would bring goals 44 seconds apart, King netting his second and Vincent Greene scoring for the Woodsmen. Later in the period, Nolan Mix would score, and then two more goals from Lazo would be the difference.
Helena 1 @ Granite City 3 - Reece Gronseth would be the Granite City hero, as the Lumberjacks defeated the Helena Bighorns by a final of 3-1 on Monday night. The lone goal of the first belonged to Thomas Gerum for Granite City, while Austin Uecker would respond early in the second to send the game hurtling to the second intermission deadlocked at a goal apiece. Early in the third, Gronseth would bury a feed from Gerum to put the Lumberjacks up a goal, and then Parker Comstock would seal the deal with an empty net goal.
Tulsa 3 @ NA3HL Selects 1 - Tulsa defeated the NA3HL Selects 3-1 in the NA3HL Showcase. The Oilers dominated the game, outshooting the Selects 40-16. Tulsa opened the scoring 7:31 into the first period as Luke Yahola grabbed his first of the season. Ryan Humphries followed that with his first goal of the year just under two minutes later. Tulsa led 2-0 after 20 minutes. The Selects finally broke through midway through the second period Hatcher Horton scored on the power play to slash the Oiler lead in half. However, Tulsa re-extended their lead back to a pair just over four minutes later. This time it was Brayden Hagemann tallying a power play marker of his own. David Gifford stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced in the win while the Selects split the game between a pair of goaltenders. Braiden Buccino stopped 13 of 14 shots he faced while Myles Ganske made 25 saves in 27 opportunities.
