by Tristin McKinstry and Noah Radomski
New Jersey 2 @ Maine 10 - The Maine Nordiques stunned the New Jersey Titans Saturday afternoon, as they emerged victorious, 10-2. Maine had a whopping six skaters record at least 3 points each in the matchup, including Genrikh Rozhkov who led the way with 5 points (1G, 4A). New Jersey struggled to find a consistent netminder to man the crease, as they swapped goaltenders twice throughout the game. Gabe Pomerleau on the other hand played outstanding, padding aside 29/31 en route to the Nordiques’ win.
Northeast 3 @ Long Beach 2 (OT) - The Northeast Generals dominated on the shot front, outshooting the Long Beach Sharks 43-20 in their 3-2 overtime victory. Devon Fay opened the scoring for Long Beach, before Brooks Fegers evened the score. From there, Robert Johnson IV had the game’s lone goal of the second period, as the Sharks regained the lead. Sameul Gusty would send the game into overtime for the Generals, where Michael McLaughlin secured the victory for Northeast with his goal just 21-seconds into the extra period. Nathan McFall earned the win, stopping 18/20 in net. Despite the loss, Kameron Ragon stood tall in net for Long Beach, padding away 40/43.
Norwich 1 @ Binghamton 2 - The Binghamton Buzz defeated the Norwich Sea Captains 2-1 in a low scoring affair Saturday. Preston Peterson opened the scoring just 49-seconds into the game for Binghamton, before Griffon Gagnon extended the lead to close out the period. Early in the second, Ryan Janik cut the lead in half for Norwich, however that would end up being the game’s last goal. Backed by Dalton Elliot and his 33-save performance, the Buzz hung onto win this one 2-1.
Minnesota M 3 @ Minnesota W 2 - The Minnesota Moose held onto win 3-2 against the Minnesota Wilderness in a back-and-forth matchup. Following a scoreless oping period, Tyler Webb got the Wilderness on the board, before the Moose would score three straight, thanks to Blake Lokken, Xavier Tholl, and Luke Steffen. With one second remaining on the clock in the middle-period, Jordan Fanti slid one past the netminder to put the Wilderness within one. The Moose wound up winning this one, backed by solid defense and goaltending in the third.
Texas B 2 @ Austin 5 - The Austin Ice Bats flew right out of the gate en route to a 5-2 win over the Texas Brahmas. Austin opened the game with three-straight goals, courtesy of Logan Verville, Thomas Forgrave, and Taras Korotchenko. Chase Forry struck back for Texas with a goal of his own, before Noah Howden-Rich extended the lead for the Ice Bats. Carter Kotrba gave the Brahmas one last gasp of hope, however Ashton Morin sealed Austin’s victory with a late empty netter.
St. Louis 0 @ Rochester 5 - The Rochester Grizzlies blanked the St. Louis Jr. Blues 5-0 Saturday night. Noah Gillette netted the lone goal of the opening period, before the Grizzlies attacked for three-straight in the second. Tommy Woods, Jack McClellan, and Aiden Emerich hit the back of the net to extend Rochester’s lead. Mason Decker tacked on another for good measure to make the final 5-0. Netminder Joey Bertram was fantastic in the crease to earn the 26-save shutout.
Wisconsin 1 @ Wausau 3 - In a close game, the Wausau Cyclones edged out the Wisconsin Woodsmen 3-1 Saturday night. Following a scoreless opening period, Davis Polfika lit the lamp to give Wausau the advantage. Vincent Greene looked to get the Woodsmen on the board, and did just that with his tally. However, Cullen Grahek and Connor Dvorak saw shots hit the back of the net to put the Cyclones back up front. Backed by Tanner Bonjernoor’s 35-save performance, Wausau was able to hang on to emerge victorious.
Louisiana 5 @ New Mexico 4 (SO) - This matchup needed more than just regulation to decide the winner, as the Louisiana Drillers outlasted the New Mexico Ice Wolves in a shootout. Jake Bergstrom and Derek Johnson opened the scoring to give the Drillers an early advantage, before the Ice Wolves answered back with a pair of their own, thanks to Issa Murakami and Dantae Hunziker Liam Mooney then lit the lamp early in the second to give New Mexico their first lead of the game. However, Johnson and Brody Neish were quick to score to help put Louisiana back on top. In the third, Rory Smith evened the score at four apiece. Following a scoreless overtime, Max Workman netted the only goal of the shootout to help push the Drillers past the Ice Wolves.
Peoria 3 @ West Bend 6 - The hosting West Bend Power took control in the latter stages of the first period on Saturday. The Power scored twice to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room. And they never relinquished control of the game. Peoria did make the game a bit more interesting, scoring twice in the second and once in the final frame. However, West Bend comfortably skated to a 6-3 victory on Saturday night. Power forward Lucca Weinkauf earned First Star honors with a goal and an assist against the visiting Mustangs.
Alexandria 3 @ Granite City 4 - The Granite City Lumberjacks got off to a quick start as Teagan Dodge scored his fifth goal of the season less than a minute into the game. Moreover, Granite City scored three times in the opening frame as they took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. However, Alexandria did not go away. Eli Fletcher scored for the visiting Blizzard to make it a one-score game in the second period. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. The Lumberjacks scored again in the third, which gave them cushion enough to claim a 4-3 victory. The story of this game is power play success. Alexandria failed to convert on seven power-play chances, while Granite City scored half their goals with the man advantage.
Atlanta 1 @ El Paso 7 - The Atlanta Capitals grabbed momentum from the claws of the El Paso Rhinos near the end of the first period. Landon Thiesson’s sixth goal of the season gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead 20 seconds before the end of the frame. However, things went horrifically wrong for Atlanta following this goal. The Rhinos scored seven unanswered goals to cruise to a 7-1 win on home ice. Kacper Gach and Donovan Bradford each scored two goals to help El Paso’s efforts offensively on Saturday night.
Yellowstone 0 @ Helena 6 - The Yellowstone Quake entered Saturday night’s game hoping to pull off a massive upset and win their second game of the season. However, it wasn’t meant to be. Yellowstone was dominated by the hosting Helena Bighorns, losing 6-0 on the road. In some respects, the score is a bit kind to the Quake. They managed just 10 shots on goal, with six of them coming in the second period alone. Conversely, Helena threw an astonishing 95 shots at Quake goalie Chase Ebeyer. Ebeyer turned aside 89 of those shots in the loss on Saturday.
Butte 2 @ Badlands 4 - The Butte Irish came out of the gates rather slowly on Saturday night. They managed less than 10 shots in each of the first two periods. Still, the Irish kept themselves in the game. The Irish trailed the hosting Badlands Sabres by one goal entering the third period. Butte poured it on in the final frame, outshooting the Sabres 17-3. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Dawson Wirth completed a natural hat trick in the third period to put the finishing touches on a 4-2 victory.
Gillette 5 @ Great Falls 4 (OT) - The Gillette Wild fell behind early on Saturday night as the Great Falls Americans scored twice in the opening period. However, they made a statement in the second period. Gillette scored four times, including the final three goals of a five-goal period between the two teams. The Americans were not willing to roll over on home ice, though. Gavin Denis scored to bring Great Falls level and force overtime. In the extra frame, it was the visiting Wild who claimed victory thanks to Brady Johnson’s 15th goal of the season.
Bozeman 5 @ Sheridan 2 - The Bozeman Icedogs scored all of their goals in a single period. And that worked out just fine for them. Bozeman rode a five-goal second period to victory over the Sheridan Hawks on Saturday night. The Icedogs received goals from five different players in the win, as well. Bozeman’s standout offensively was forward Baron Masoput, who scored a goal and an assist in the win. Meanwhile, goalie Brett DeVincent stopped 35 of 37 shots faced to help his team to victory.
