Ice Wolves Assistant Captain Mooney makes NCAA Commitment

The New Mexico Ice Wolves of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are proud to announce that forward Liam Mooney has committed to play NCAA DIII hockey for Misericordia University.
Mooney, 21, is a seasoned NA3HL veteran and a foundational piece of both the New Mexico Ice Wolves lineup and the community at Outpost Ice Arenas. As an original member of New Mexico’s NA3HL team, the Philadelphia, PA native played in 142 games over three seasons, amassing 81 points (41 goals, 40 assists).
Mooney exemplifies the Ice Wolves' development model, steadily improving his production each season. His 2024-25 campaign marked a career-best, as he averaged nearly a point per game with 38 points in 42 regular season appearances. He recorded nine multi-point games during the year, including a pair of standout five-point performances. One of those came in a 9-4 win over the El Paso Rhinos, where Mooney notched two goals and three assists.
He also put together a notable five-game point streak spanning from mid-December through mid-January, further showcasing his consistency and offensive impact.
“We are incredibly proud and excited for Liam as he starts this next chapter, after being able to watch him grow and develop as a player and a leader over the last three seasons. He not only impacted the game on the ice but set the tone for what our culture was from day one and we’re elated Misericoncordia saw the potential this young man has,” stated Ice Wolves Coach Alex Gilbert. “We’re going to be telling the story of how he didn’t come in as the top guy but found his way into the lineup and never looked back, which is just a testament to his willingness to do whatever it took to help his team night in and night out. Good luck Mooney in this next step, you’re going to rock it!”
Mooney is one of four players from the Ice Wolves to make a college commitment this season.
