Ice Wolves forward Murakami makes college commitment

June 17, 2025

The New Mexico Ice Wolves of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are proud to announce that forward Issa Murakami has committed to play college hockey for University of New Mexico.

Murakami, 20, capped off his junior career in New Mexico, appearing in 39 games for the Ice Wolves. The Tomakomai, Japan native averaged over a point per game and finished as the team’s third-leading scorer, racking up 60 points (23 goals, 37 assists).

He recorded 17 multi-point games and had three separate stretches of 6 to 7 consecutive games with at least one point, underscoring his steady offensive production. One of his standout performances came during a weekend series against the Atlanta Capitals, where he scored six goals, four of them on the power play, helping the Ice Wolves complete a series sweep.

Murakami’s consistent impact earned him a spot at the 2025 Top Prospects Tournament in Plymouth, Michigan. There, he continued to shine, contributing two goals and two assists while representing New Mexico.

He is one of five players from the Ice Wolves to make a college commitment this season.
