The Wisconsin Woodsmen of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are proud to announce that Assistant Captain Johnny Thrasher has committed to play NCAA DIII hockey for the newly established program at Beloit College.
Thrasher, 21, is well-acquainted with the NA3HL, having spent three seasons in the league, one with the New Ulm Steel before joining the Wisconsin Woodsmen for the final two years of his junior career. In 113 total games, the 6’0” defenseman recorded 44 points, including seven goals and 37 assists.
The future Buccaneer saw significant growth under Head Coach Jon Vaillancourt, doubling his point totals from his first to second season with the Woodsmen. His standout performance of the 2024-25 season came during Wisconsin’s playoff push, contributing three points in a 6-4 win over the Rochester Grizzlies. Thrasher scored the go-ahead goal and added two assists, showcasing his ability to make a difference in key moments.
“We are very excited to see Johnny moving onto Beloit for next season. Johnny has been a leader for our program for the last two seasons and his commitment to his teammates and to the Tomah community has been exceptional. He embodies everything we believe as a program; Excellence, growth, integrity and authenticity. I look forward to watching his continued success at the next level,” stated Woodsmen Head Coach Jon Vaillancourt.
He is one of four players to make a college commitment this season from the Woodsmen.
