Mason City Forward Buchanan Makes College Commitment

The North Iowa Bulls, formerly known as the Mason City Toros, of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are proud to announce that forward, Mason Buchanan, has committed to play ACHA Division II college hockey for Illinois State University (Normal, Illinois).

Buchanan spent three years in the NA3HL. During the 2023-24 season he played a full season for the Peoria Mustangs, and during the 2024-25 season he played for the Alexandria Blizzard. He joined the Mason City Toros in the 2025-26 season and remained there for the rest of his league career. 

During the 2025-26 season, he recorded 24 points during the 2025-26 season, consisting of 12 goals and 12 assists. 

“Mason was fantastic for us last season,” said Bulls head coach Alex North. “He provided veteran experience for our group that our younger guys benefited from. I am excited to see what he does at the next level.”

Buchanan plans to major in business, and he will join numerous former NA3HL teammates at Illinois State. 

One of Buchanan’s best performances of the year came on Feb. 27 against the Alexandria Blizzard. He scored two goals to help aid the Toros in a close victory of 6-5 over the Blizzard on their home ice. 

Buchanan is one of ten players from the Mason City Toros to make a college commitment this season.
