Kenny returns to watch team play
December 26, 2013
Pittsburgh Vengeance forward Kevin Kenny, who was severely injured during a game last month, has returned to the rink.
This past Friday night, the NA3HL's Pittsburgh Vengeance played their first home game since player Kevin Kenny suffered a paralyzing injury to his spinal cord.
The game was played at the same place and against the same team (Cleveland) when Kenny was hurt.
Before the game, Kenny made his way onto the ice to see his team and is getting support from both sides of the ice.
He said it’s was very overwhelming. “I can’t believe how many people have written letters and donated. I’m really blown away by it,” said Kenny.
“It’s nice for him to get out of the hospital for a little while because he’s been in the room and in the hospital,” added Carolyn Kenny, Kevin’s mom. “So, it’s nice for him to get back in the regular environment.”
Since the injury, Kevin has had two major surgeries and pneumonia. Friends and family have been fundraising and collecting donations the entire time. They say so far they have raised more than $80,000.
